Clean? Maybe organized.
New Garden Projects #6
Dave,Victor,Bill:
Thanks for the advise.I will try to save the bush.I remember grandparents putting ashes on the garden in winter just to get rid of them.
Its too risky out there now so no more ash throwing for me.
Yes - be careful, Jo Anne. Don't want to throw your ash out!
OMG Starting today already?
blizzerd is here,I'm not going anywhere.
Don't put any wood ash on those Japanese iris Jo, they hate it. Lilacs love it.
I ashed last winter befor I planted JI's this spring.
It was such a futile and risky adventure I let SIL empty them into a garbage can and take to his work, they have their own trashpit.
The only plants I put wood ash on are my peonies---they seem to do well. We have very acidic soil here---I usually put a 1/2 cup of lime into the soil around the clems.
Big difference putting ashes on lilacs vs rhodies.
Especially if the ashes are Uncle Bob, who hated rhodies.
Who told you about uncle Bob?
My Uncle Bob was always an assh
I loved my parents but my father was a controler and made life for us unpleasant at times.
I put his ashes in the back of the garden and my mother's under the DogWood Tree in front near my studio. He couldnt "browbeat" from where he was.
LOL---good planning, Jo Ann!
He cant see her from where he is and her spot is cool and quiet.
The new owners have no clue.
LOL---that's great!
Glad to hear about the peonies. My Dh kept dumping ashes over the side of the deck rail. Right where I have a gardens! He was arguing the fact that it could hurt the plants. Talk about a Pain in the Ash! ; ) Lol
I may have to check the ph of the soil, where I planted my peonies. I tend to have slightly acidic soil here. I asked my dh politely if he would agree to disagree and dump the ash in my compost pile instead. He is just being lazy and not wanting to leave the deck, so we'll see how it goes this year.
Good luck Meredith! Perhaps a metal bucket (with lid) on the deck would help. Lazy men can be dangerous to gardens!
Thanks I need it! lol That is a great idea. I hate to make my husband sound lazy.... he is the farthest thing from it. There are just certain things he doesn't feel are worth any extra effort for, and if it involves my garden I usually get a roll of the eyes. lol
Jeesh! Okay, a vote for the not-so-lazy, but a slightly dismissive husband, specifically when it comes to gardens.
That can be a blessing too. It's all yours!
i agree victor - meredith sometimes i save my fireplace ash in plastic bags and leave them under my deck (where the firewood is stored) until spring - that may not be out of the way for your hubby.
Yes Victor, I feel that way. If he tried getting involved too much, it wouldn't be as great of an escape from the every day for me. : ) Although I do like his help when it comes to things that need a bit more muscle! ; )
Wow wha that is a great idea, because he just set up the underneath of our deck with firewood too.
Wow wha?!!
Sorry Victor I see it was your idea now! : )
No, no. Just admiring that pairing!
it was wow wha's idea meredith:)
wow wha wow wha wow wha...
LOL
Oh lol! : )
Turning into an abbreviation thread!
Ha ha ha : )
Sounds like a place to get a candy bar---aren't there WAWAs in NJ?

There are wawas but none in mahwah.
Babba Wawa?
ayou guys are GA GA! TaTa, off to play in the clay as soon as I call DH and tell him to stop dumping the wood ash in random spots in the garden OR i will send him off to LA LA Land. I think he has been doing this for 26 years. Who knew, not me. Patti
it is still good stuff patti - if your hydrangea are pink/red use it there, also on any lilacs or just spread it on the lawn or in a compost
Watch you ash!
