DAILY PICS - VOL. 255

Stafford County, VA

Agreed. I really like that first one.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Linth that Great Egret is a Great way to start the new thread...thanks for starting it. I love the Snow Geese shots and brings back memories of a windy day when the migrating Snow and Canada Geese spent the night on our farm. They wiped out several acres of winter wheat but a small price to pay for the experience!

Dave...as always beautiful shots of the Blues and Goldfinches.

Red..That looks like a great place to visit...love the Buffalo!!

GP...Bunting envy here!

Sac...Those Blue Jays are a hoot!

Dirt...That is an adorable shot of the Dee!

Pelle...Awesome shot of the Hawk...well done!

Another beautiful day today...very sunny and a great day to be outdoors. Yesterday the House Finches arrived in numbers and I spotted the first Pine Siskin of the season. Today the Purple Finches and Starlings have arrived so it looks like all the winter birds are present and accounted for.

I spotted this American Kestrel across the field this morning...it was very far away but they are too beautiful to not try and get a shot.

HA HA Margaret....I would give it up but NOT be happy about!!

Wow lots of nice pics!! Must be Red-tailed Hawk time! I had to drive in to Avon and I saw the really huge one that sits along HWY 36. This thing is so HUGE!!!!!! It was soaring today and it still looked huge!

I was charging the batteries and I had 2 gorgeouse Blue Birds right outside the back window AND 2 does and a fawn too. I was so bad!! Need to get another pkg. of rechargeables.

Mourning Dove...we don't seem to have as many. Maybe due to increased hawk activity lately....

Great start with the Egret, and the great mass of Snow Geese, Linth.
Dave I love your Bluebirds.
Pelle, great to see that wonderful shot of the Hawk, so glad he stayed for the photo shoot.
I see some of you are getting lots more birds, in your yard. Great to see them in pictures, form all of you.
It's suddenly very quiet here now. All the Sparrows are gone. The Junco have disappeared, but will return later in the season. I'm left with Blue Jays , Chickadees, Goldfinches, Hairy Woodpeckers, and Doves. Haven't seen the Downy in a while.
This is from the week before, when we got a few inches of snow.

Sandusky, OH

Nice Shots Everyone!! Pelle great shot with your first Red-t Hawk pic!
I put up my first bird feeder 2 weeks ago, since snow will be coming soon, I wanted to see what bird's would visit the backyard this winter. If it were not for all of you on the DG's Birdwatcher's Forum, I'd have a long boring winter and no feeder knowledge ( thank you Ive learned a lot about them here).

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Burn, it will be interesting to see if your Redpolls arrive early this year. I'm seeing most of our winter birds much earlier as are several of my friends. Great photos-they look so cute in the snow.

Here's a cute Oak Titmouse.

The birds are looking cute in the red berries. We rarely get snow so the berries are the best I can get for my winter photos.

Wonderful thread, this will be my Holiday's enjoyment as I've more time to study different birds being seen from various regions. Can't pick a favorite for I love them all. The Snow Geese are new for me and I'm so happy to see them in large number. Thanks Al for sharing such picture.

Love the water especially in that shot. I assume this is an immature male Painted Bunting, since you can see some colors just starting on him.

Black Vulture. I have not seen the numbers of birds as in previous years. One adult male Painted Bunting and a few immature males....spotted one Indigo so far. Maybe they will arrive later. I did see a couple of Robins soar overhead this morning. I did have a Hawk dive into the yard. It flew right over my head, but I was checking pics on my camera, and did not see it...all I heard was a "whoosh". I did catch a glimpse of it as it flew off. Birds were scarce for a long time afterwards.

Our feeder is up, but I think the visitors are the ones around here all winter. I hope we get our goldfinches back They were absent last winter. Love all the pictures.

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Rose, enjoy the goldfinches. They're adorable. Congratulations on the finches too!
Dirt, beautiful goose photo.
GP, love your little bunting and you know I love that beautiful Grackle! Hope that hawk moves on away from your birds.
Iris, we love all birds-it doesn't matter if they're year round or visiting!
