Does anyone have suggestions for a shrub/bush that has flowers in a shade of blue to purple that will grow well in full sun? I would really like to use a butterfly bush, but it appears that it can only be planted down to zone 9.
Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.
Suggestions for Flowering Shrubs/Bushes in South Florida
Does Crepe Myrtle do well in your zone? I have seen some pretty purple colored ones.
I think Mexican Petunia would probably grow well in your zone, probably too well, haha.
I know this thread is old, but I have some suggestions. Oleander grows quite well down here and it does come in different flowering colors such as purple and pink. Full sun and drought tolerant too! Though, it is toxic to animals and people so be aware! Also, plumbago grows well in our climate, and its blue flowers are quite stunning, though I don't personally like the "weedy" look to the foliage. If I think of anything else I'll let you know!
How could I forget the good old Bougainvillea? I'm sure you have them all over Miami area as we have them here in Palm Beach County. They can take to many shapes and habits - from trees, to bushes/shrubs, to creeping vine. They come in many different colors, including, pink, purple, orange, yellow, white, etc. I've seen many shrubs of bougainvillea, and even low hedges. This is a great plant for our climate with nice color almost year-round!
