how does one protect your pumpkisn squash plants melon plants etc from what ever is ruining the vines of above plants. have tried sprays no avail

BTW, carbaryl is Sevin, and I would recommend using the dust - just on the stems, not on the leaves or flowers. It is highly toxic to bees.
