What's for dinner?

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

You def have to par boil the potatoes or it just takes too long. Use oil not butter. Heat oil spread poatoes in it, sprinkle onion on top with salt and pepper. Medium to low heat. Keep pressing it down. Cook bottom layer first, don't turn it till it's lightly browned.

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Ah, I was using butter. Thanks Jen!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

No problem, enjoy. Now I'm in the mood for hash browns.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Me too. I'm on my way, Jen.

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Tee Hee :-)

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Going to start them now with some scrambled eggs.

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Thats what I had. Blackened Potatoe Chips w/ scrambled eggs.

Thomaston, CT

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Gotta have rye with beef stew (and gherkins).

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

Leftover turkey from Sun.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Black beans and brown rice with tomatoes and steamed broccoli

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Cold shrimp with Heluva Good cocktail sauce. It was really hot! Then pork chops and stuffing.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Spaghetti - my son's birthday request.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Randy loves Heluva Good cheese

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Heluva Good anything is good. They make it near us, and there's an outlet store. Cheese is so cheap there.

Why is it you can buy 10 year aged cheese, and within a few weeks it gets moldy?

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

LOL.. good point.. the food saver bags help with that though

Thomaston, CT

Gee, Harper, you're eating healthy! Swiss steak, mashed tatoes, & green beans here tonight.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

ahi tuna from trader joes w/rice - wife is out with the girls and does not eat seafood so this is my chance

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

My wife is going out tonight too so I'm ordering!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i almost ordered chinese, the ahi will be much better!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I just finished Chinese!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

DH doesn't get home 'till after 7. Then DS doesn't get home from Jujutsu 'till 7:45. We never eat early. Wish everyone was home by 5!

Haven't started thinking about dinner yet. I'll have to rummage around to see what we have.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I love Chinese food

Raviolis

South Hamilton, MA

waffles tonight-- they are soft to chew & I had visited the dentist this afternoon.

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

What a great idea for a thread. : ) Love looking at everyone's dinners. It gives me ideas on things I should make.
Flowerjen I noticed you said sometimes you have kielbasa and pierogies for Christmas. When my Baci was still able to cook she and other family members always made themfor Christmas. We always spent Christmas Eve at her house and it always included a meal of kielbasa and pierogies. Mmm : )

I just made Turkey in gravy, spooned over mashed potatoes. When my Mom made this it was always served over toast. I don't like how the bread gets soggy so I skipped it. I think that'll do it for Turkey leftovers.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i love chinese as well - except the msg - gain about 5 lbs. that hang around a couple days till the salt gets out of your body.

btw the ahi tuna was awesome! can not beat trader joes and their pre-seasoned tuna and lamb - brought home two racks of lamb as well - wife doesn't eat lamb either :)!!!!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Love chinese food here too but order most with out MSG, gives me a head ache. I was thinking of starting a thread on what you absolute weakness's are and some embarressing moments involving food. ^_^

For instance.......when I go to Sam's club for bulk shopping I can NOT resist the rack of ribs they cook on the rotisserie. Even if I am full I will buy one, it doesn't matter, they just need to be fresh......11AM. LOL Now some of you have met me, im not a big person and I don't eat alot at once, but I eat often. I'm a nibbler, unless it's ribs and if you want some you better get on it!! OK so the ribs are bought on Tues. afternoon and on Wed, aftenoon DH thought he might like to heat some up for a quick bite but low and behold they were gone. All 2-2.5 feet of them, yup took me almost 24 hrs but I nibbled them all. DH wasn't even mad, he was astounded!

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

We went out to eat. I had a grilled cheese and bacon, Russ a mini pizza.

We cleaned the kitchen floor. It's white linoleum patterned blue. I bought a hoover bare floor cleaner, and we never realized how dirty the floor was until we used the floor cleaner, so decided to strip it right down and clean it, and then Armstrong Shine on top. So couldn't cook dinner as the floor is still drying.

If anyone ever has a hard area to clean on linoleum, we found out tonight Scrubbing Bubbles works fantastic, and leaves no residue.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

he is a good man celeste - i would NOT have been astounded! :)

my wife polished off garlic bread and a fancy bread to go with soup in the past week - i was not pleased as there were several pieces left and she ate them all.

if i had done that there would have been a small explosion :)

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

LOL! Celeste, thats too funny! I am like that with a store bought rotissiere chicken. I will nibble away, like a mouse, until it is gone:-)

Polly
I use the hoover too. It makes things so much easier. I will try the scrubbing bubbles. Do you put it in the machine?

I am sitting here hungry cause i cant think of what to make quick . Thanks Polly, grilled cheese and bacon it will be :-)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Funny, Celeste! I think you should challenge Brian to an eating contest. Sort of like the tortoise and the hare...

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

No, I didn't put the Scrubbing Bubbles in the machine. I had the spray bottle kind, and just sprayed it on the floor, then used clear warm water in the tank. of the Hoover, rinsed the floor with the Hoover, and used the wet vac feature on it. . I am ashamed to admit how much dirt was in the dirty water tank. That solution that comes with the Hoover wasn't cleaning well enough, I didn't think.

Grilled cheese and bacon is yum. Comfort food, I guess.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

We have the Hoover too. I like it. Takes a while to dry - even with the wet pickup.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Yes, it does. I have the heat turned up and the ceiling fan on, and I think it's still going to be overnight.

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Mine dries quick. I have the top set on wet /dry and the bottom on dry.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I don't think mine has those settings. It's just dry vaccuum, wet scrub, or wet vaccuum.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes - mine too.

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Theres settings in the handle.
Y'all must have the new model that does tiles. I have the first one, for just linoleum and wood.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Yes mine does tile, and has a tile attachment/ grout brush, which I never use. It sounds like yours would be better for my purposes.

I'll have to look at the handle, but I don't think there are any setting on it. I may be wrong.

It's certainly a good machine.

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

I just checked it. Its the H3001 for hard floors. I don't know if they still sell it. They have so many new ones out now. Regardless, it is a life saver, even for big spills. But don't get me started, I'm an appliance junkie :-)
