I want to dig up my strawberry bed and rework the soil due to "failure to thrive". The bed is over 5 years old and needs help.
Can I save the plants until next year like bulbs or do I have to replant right away? Suggestions for the plants? Suggestions for the soil?
Digging and saving Strawberries Good idea or bad?
You could pot them up or put them in another bed temporarily, then replant them in that bed once you've got the bed redone.
The way the strawberry growers do it is place a runner in a peat cup full of potting soil. When it roots, clip the runner. You then have new plants for next year.
Thanks all! Jim41 sounds like a goog plan for next year. I'll have the peat pots ready by then...hopefully.
I don't know when you would set out strawberries in your part of the country. The commercial growers down in our are set in February.
