It's Fall in New England #3

Thomaston, CT

The waterfall shot is truly wonderful, Victor! VV, I have no viburnums, but am thinking about one for next year---am thinking of 'Molly Schroeder'--does anyone grow her? Bill, thanks for the tip on the JMs---since we won't be here for 5 weeks this winter, I'll have to wait.

saw a blue heron sitting on a fallen tree in the wet lands the other day - just caught him as it flew off - didn't like me sneaking down there to take its picture.

Our viburnums were here when we moved in in 1973. DH says they are arrowwoods-they have blue berries. There are so many shrubs & trees on the property that we don't add them. the exception to that statement was the tulip populars which we planted next to the house (which flowers) and later one near the back gate on the former pony paddock. That has not flowered but little additions keep popping up in the compost pile. DH wants to try to pot them up & take to our iris club seed exchange. We did not take them to a meeting in Maine as that would be north of its range. We can only grow them here as we are just 5 miles from the ocean.

You guys all take the best pics! That's a good shot of the heron--they are pretty elusive --hard to even get a glimpse of them! Victor, those water shots are stunning! It is difficult to capture the dynamic movement of water, and you suceeded!

Beautiful vibernums, VV, and I love the Larix. Nice!

Patti, I'm excited to see my Hamamelis bloom next year, too. I saw buds on it! Woo hoo!

Thanks all. Yes, Bill - had my point and shoot on the Gorillapod tripod and used a long shutter - anywhere from 1/2 second to four or five seconds.

Took my kids and a few of their friends hiking today. Found an even nicer waterfall area. Could not take too many shots since I was allegedly watching them. I will definitely be back here next week. And in the winter.

Hiking with kids?!! I don't recommend it, Karen.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

LOL! I've done it. Actually, I hike with my Dad, and sometimes that's like hiking with a kid.

another nice one - going to have to look into those long exposures

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Wow! That's fantastic! I don't know anything about shutters yet--but makes sense if I'm understanding correctly. I know lots about watching kids though! LOL!

Princess Blue Eyes--shutter speed on whatever setting it was on before I took the camera out of the box! LOL!

It's fun. In this shot, you can see the 'ghost' of a guy who got up to leave (probably because my loud kids killed his solitude!). That's another cool feature of long exposures.

Cool, Victor! Nice violet, Phoebe!

Cool! I see him!

That's bizarre...you can probably try to sell it to the National Enquirer and say you spotted a ghost.

And he's 'crossing over' the stream!

Check out this video of this same area where I was, after a Noreaster in '07!

That's a lot of water.

Nice photos, Victor. Are you using neutral density filters?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Margaret. Yes, I am - and a polarizer.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Wow! Bet that would look great under a slow exposure, Victor!

And an umbrella!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

LOL!

PERTH, Australia

I'm sure it's the polarizer that's working the magic. LOL

Hee hee - thanks, Margaret!

Here is my weeping beech.

From yesterday - playing with the white balance makes the rocks look duller, but gives the water a cool blue look.

Another nice one, Victor, and your weeping beech is beautiful!

I doubt my smoke bush, viburnums, and giant kousa have leaves left but I'll check. Inspiring, wha!
