Catching up. Luvly pics all. Amazing that the little guy was out in the hail BN! Even the large birds head for cover here when it hails.

Puyallup, WA(Zone 8a)

This guy was in such a thirsty hurry he was flinging sugar water everywhere ! lol lol

Cute BN, they do get thirsty, don't they?

I found these three hummers way out in the brush, just waiting for a free hole at one feeder.

Ohh silly me thats the wrong picture... lol lol Heres the snow one : ))

Thumbnail by BeanysNana
Puyallup, WA(Zone 8a)

They just make me laugh !!! They are just such little clowns. She just kept looking at her foot like she stubbed her toe or something.

Puyallup, WA(Zone 8a)

Thats a great shot of the 3 duc ! Mine won't sit that close together. They chase each other constantly. Sometimes 5 or 6 of them start doing aerobatics !! My 1 male even runs off my big seed eating birds. : )

Puyallup, WA(Zone 8a)

Dirt !!! I did not realize you are so close to me ! Thats kewl. I planted scarlet runner beans and they loved them ! Bright red and lots of blooms !!!

Renton, WA

Howdy neighbor, Bnana -Now I gotta have me them beans!
nice snow pic, getting an early blast up in the hills lately.
Duc, pretty bird.

greetings from an early riser.

conversing in clicks and calls,
this morning I think its to me,
its on only me and him and even the
chickadees aren't around.
I mimic its clicks (baaadly)
and he answers in repetition,
finally ignores me
calls and calls,
and sees another in a neighbors tree

meanwhile this is a better hummingbird feeder warmer--
http://www.waynesthisandthat.com/hummingbirds.htm#warmer
I don't have that style of feeder, he makes sense why he chooses this type,
maybe go out and get one or do something similar.
Last year I wrapped aluminum foil over an old desk lamp and spent alot time
binding the two together and making sure I didn't electrocute me or the birds.

Dirt, your pictures are sooo cute! That hummer feeder warmer would be a good way to keep your nectar warm, but you'd have to watch it didn't go sour or bad from the heat.
BN, your little ones look so cold already. I guess my birds are lucky because it's a little warmer here

.

This guy was looking at me and telling me to leave him alone. Didn't notice he'd stuck his tongue at me until I downloaded the photo!

Handsome guy, Duc
You caught him dressed perfectly in luminous red,
finely detailed, not a feather out of place.
I think he likes you.

The same guy this AM,
listening to my incessant clicking babble and must
think I have an IQ of a stump.

LOL duc and dirt. Both of those seem to be giving 'signals' ^_^

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

LOL Dirt! I think your little guy is just asking if you'll turn up the temperature for him. He looks cold.

Renton, WA

Those little things are making an idiot out of me., Dahlia -
Duc has the suave crowd, the perfect hostess " a sugar cube in your aperitif? " and I guess I have
to chop wood and build a fire for their kin up here to keep just as happy.

Renton, WA

The flash makes it look earlier than it was,
very nice effect.
the little guy doesn't mind--
same conversation as yesterday-
I am harmless to him and stand 5 feet away,
I was remarking that even though the cold has set in,
alot of the flowers are hanging in longer than the
last couple of seasons. Even a coral bell flowered.
That was nice, he replied.

The heated set up wont be used until heavy frost and
much cooler temps. Usually we have just a few days and
was use to just swapping feeders, but the last cold winter
changed that so planning again for that to occur. If it doesn't
then lots of plants and me will be happy and I get to
experiment.

Beautiful pictures Dirt. I guess I'm lucky that our really cold days don't last but a couple days and my feeders have never frozen.

This little girl sure looks very pregnant! Either that or she's just filled up on sugar water. I don't think I've ever seen one this chubby.

I love looking at your gorgeous birds. Duc, the one with its tongue sticking out is so sweet.

Puyallup, WA(Zone 8a)

My crocosmia is still blooming and they love it this time of the year !! Caught this "lil guy" the other day when the sun popped out for 3 seconds !!!

Beautiful pics guys!

Margaret-- you're day to day chapters of those beautiful
ospreys are so much fun to read, the patience you have,
the great photography, the location and your storytelling
are inspiring and captive. Wonderfully done.
B'Nana -- my crocs are long gone and died back, pretty pic.
Duc- she is 'showing' beautiful, might be a combination of both!

Finally photographed a hummer enjoying the hollyhock.
Doesn't it look like there is a face on the plant!

Thumbnail by dirt_in_ozone7b

this is the whole plant-- its huge compared
to the spent ones pictured on the right and those are 8-9 feet high.
I have one tie to the post and its still up after a couple
of huge storms and flowered profusely- I am in awe of it,
the anna's love it and hope it lasts-- weather news says almost
freezing next week in the valley, that means it will probably freeze here.

hey -- get out of my ear-- it tickles.

fibbed alittle-- do have some smaller
very pretty red ones which I have tried to save
seeds from and they were too green and the
last couple of weeks too wet. Too bad- wanted
to spread those around.

BN, your hummer and the Crocosmia are beautiful.

Dirt, love the hollyhock and hummers! Every year I try to measure my tallest hollyhock to see if I can beat the past year's growth. So far, this year's was my tallest-a whoping 15 feet!! Your plant looks like it might top mine!!

This little one was grooming itself.

This one loves to sit farther away and watch all three feeders at once.

I thought this hummer had lots of pollen under the bill, but now it looks like it's just coloring.

Their gorgeous duc! Great shots!

I soooo enjoy this thread!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Here's another cute guy

Thumbnail by ducbucln
Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

I'm starting to believe I'm putting too much sugar in the nectar. This little chubby guy has a potbelly! Not really, all the birds are cold now that it's gotten down to the low 40's here. The younger ones aren't quite used to it yet.

Thumbnail by ducbucln
Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Here's one of my "ghost" birds. Probably should have put this in the bad photos, but I thought it was still cute.

Thumbnail by ducbucln

They are all cute duc!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

I just discovered where lots of my hummers disappear to during the time they're not at my feeders. There's a tall Eucalyptus tree across the road and it's full of blooms. I could see at least 6 birds moving around the blooms, but there could have been more. I have no idea why I never noticed them in this tree before.
