One more for today.
WESTERN HUMMINGBIRDS VOL.7
Catching up. Luvly pics all. Amazing that the little guy was out in the hail BN! Even the large birds head for cover here when it hails.
Thats a great shot of the 3 duc ! Mine won't sit that close together. They chase each other constantly. Sometimes 5 or 6 of them start doing aerobatics !! My 1 male even runs off my big seed eating birds. : )
Dirt !!! I did not realize you are so close to me ! Thats kewl. I planted scarlet runner beans and they loved them ! Bright red and lots of blooms !!!
conversing in clicks and calls,
this morning I think its to me,
its on only me and him and even the
chickadees aren't around.
I mimic its clicks (baaadly)
and he answers in repetition,
finally ignores me
calls and calls,
and sees another in a neighbors tree
meanwhile this is a better hummingbird feeder warmer--
http://www.waynesthisandthat.com/hummingbirds.htm#warmer
I don't have that style of feeder, he makes sense why he chooses this type,
maybe go out and get one or do something similar.
Last year I wrapped aluminum foil over an old desk lamp and spent alot time
binding the two together and making sure I didn't electrocute me or the birds.
Dirt, your pictures are sooo cute! That hummer feeder warmer would be a good way to keep your nectar warm, but you'd have to watch it didn't go sour or bad from the heat.
BN, your little ones look so cold already. I guess my birds are lucky because it's a little warmer here
.
This guy was looking at me and telling me to leave him alone. Didn't notice he'd stuck his tongue at me until I downloaded the photo!
LOL duc and dirt. Both of those seem to be giving 'signals' ^_^
LOL Dirt! I think your little guy is just asking if you'll turn up the temperature for him. He looks cold.
Those little things are making an idiot out of me., Dahlia -
Duc has the suave crowd, the perfect hostess " a sugar cube in your aperitif? " and I guess I have
to chop wood and build a fire for their kin up here to keep just as happy.
The flash makes it look earlier than it was,
very nice effect.
the little guy doesn't mind--
same conversation as yesterday-
I am harmless to him and stand 5 feet away,
I was remarking that even though the cold has set in,
alot of the flowers are hanging in longer than the
last couple of seasons. Even a coral bell flowered.
That was nice, he replied.
I love looking at your gorgeous birds. Duc, the one with its tongue sticking out is so sweet.
Beautiful pics guys!
Margaret-- you're day to day chapters of those beautiful
ospreys are so much fun to read, the patience you have,
the great photography, the location and your storytelling
are inspiring and captive. Wonderfully done.
B'Nana -- my crocs are long gone and died back, pretty pic.
Duc- she is 'showing' beautiful, might be a combination of both!
Finally photographed a hummer enjoying the hollyhock.
Doesn't it look like there is a face on the plant!
this is the whole plant-- its huge compared
to the spent ones pictured on the right and those are 8-9 feet high.
I have one tie to the post and its still up after a couple
of huge storms and flowered profusely- I am in awe of it,
the anna's love it and hope it lasts-- weather news says almost
freezing next week in the valley, that means it will probably freeze here.

BN, your hummer and the Crocosmia are beautiful.
Dirt, love the hollyhock and hummers! Every year I try to measure my tallest hollyhock to see if I can beat the past year's growth. So far, this year's was my tallest-a whoping 15 feet!! Your plant looks like it might top mine!!
This little one was grooming itself.
Their gorgeous duc! Great shots!
I soooo enjoy this thread!
They are all cute duc!
I just discovered where lots of my hummers disappear to during the time they're not at my feeders. There's a tall Eucalyptus tree across the road and it's full of blooms. I could see at least 6 birds moving around the blooms, but there could have been more. I have no idea why I never noticed them in this tree before.
