450 gm container-yogurt or cottage cheese-cut 1" hole in lid
2 cups cool water
2 tbsp flour
1 tsp yeast
1 tsp sugar
1/4 tsp salt
shake well. Fills 2 containers half full
Set containers in ground with lids at soil level. Can be left for
several weeks before changing containers-will be pretty smelly.
If your stomach can stand it, get an old tea strainer, and every few
days strain the contents of the containers-pour the liquid back into
the trap, discard the contents of the strainer under a plant needing
fertilizer (good source of nitrogen)
Slugs are apparently attracted to the scent of fermentation/
alcohol, and or yeast--
HOW ABOUT THEM SLUGS? GRIN
Dog Chow--slugs seem to prefer ordinary dry dog food to
beer two to one. Soak in small amount water to soften, place
small piles in appropriate locations, come back after dark and
deal with slugs.
A Toronto garden columnist suggests mixing 1 teaspoon alum
with 4 quarts of water and spraying the foliage of the plants
as a slug repellent.
ok enough with the slugs!
yeah but who wants to look at drowning slugs? yech.
I wonder what the alum does to repel the slugs. hmmm...
Kassy and Trina, nachos without guacamole is just bland! I don't care what you add, it's still bland without the green stuff. When Venice's tree spew avocados she can send them to me and I'll make guacamole.
Kassy if you ever decide to get rid of that chicken/rooster ornament, can I have it?
The girl I work with took a picture of a tree out by Ralph Wilson Stadium. She was so proud of herself, and it's a really nice tree. I told her I would post it.
Fall in Orchard Park, NY:
Nice Julie, but gaucamole is disgusting
I'll pass on the green stuff smiley ^_^
It's not that easy being green
Having to spend each day the color of the leaves
When I think it could be nicer being red, or yellow or gold
Or something much more colorful like that.
Pretty tree ^_^
Hi all! I will be on for just a few minutes while I have lunch.
I tried beer and dry kitty food (Kitty ate it until it rained). It was a mess! Then I got some commercial granules and it worked!
Moon, you really need to send poor JJ some of your toads! I think Kassy's pretty chickens might eat some of her flowers. Kassy your mix sounds pretty yucky. I can just see JJ straining it! NOT!!
When the sun goes down a bit and it is still warm outside, I think I am going to run some water through the soil of that avocado tree. It is soooo sad! More leaves are affected than not!
Trina did you get that bush dug up last night? Did you find some seeds on your sweet potato vines? I will have to mark on my list the ones that are not true to their parent. The impatien I have is a bit different than what you normally see. I sure hope it can grow inside ok. It really looked bad when I pulled it up.
They are doing the shingles across the street today and we will be tomorrow.
You know the shamrocks I have? Three are coming up. One is a bit distorted. When I put those tiny bulbs in I couldn't decide if the points went up or down. I changed some of them because I thought they should be the other way. I probably have half up and half down!!!
shamrocks....pointy side up...no I didn't get anything dug yesterday...it started raining, and has continued through this morning...now it's just cold!
smiley, I'll let you know if we ever get want to get rid of the chick rooster ornament. I got it for my BF's place a little over 4 years ago when he stared raising chickens.
I, on the other hand, have a number of frog ornaments. As I said,
It's not easy being green..............
LOL on the straining it venice.
Actually the girls are pretty good about staying out of my flower beds. It was when we had the leg horns that I had a lot of problems and had to fence my flower beds in even. They just loved to help me weed! so they thought!
Hey Kassy I have a stuffed kermit that sings its not easy being green, one that sings I'm a carribean amphibian, and one that sings the dreamers and me! I love Kermit!
roflmao
I love Sarah MacLaughlin's version of 'Rainbow Connection'
I said don't laugh at me Trina!!
No, our 4 leghorns were girls, I hope so anyway, they layed eggs for us............LOL
And we had some really dumb ones.
They decided they liked to roost in the tree more then to go into their coop at night. Even in the dead of winter, during a snow storm, they were in that tree.
BF did head count on them every night when he closed up the coop doors, and the song at Christmas time got to be...........
And 4 leghorns in a Box Elder tree...........................LOL
I wasn't laughing at you, I was laughing with you...and I'm serious I love Kermit! I almost got a Kermit tatoo on a dare but I chickened out!
buck buck buck
just kidding trina...........LOL
No tattoos for Trina? They don't hurt that much. When people tell you it feels like little needles sticking you, they're right.
They forget to tell you the part about that needle getting dragged across your skin while it's still stuck in you, that's all.
Or was it the Kermie that made you chicken out?
Now that's a might fi-i-ine lookin chicken, I say, chicken, young lady!
edited to say, In case you couldn't guess; I was trying to sound like Foghorn Leghorn.

the needles and the idea of deliberately putting yourself in pain, and maybe because of where they were trying to convince me to put it...LOL but I have no tatoos at all, my ears are pierced but that's because 2 of my friends tackled me to the ground while the clerk (another friend) pierced them
It hurts less on a fleshy part than on a boney part.
Kassy, tattoo?
trina, I have a friend who was dumb enough to get micky mouse tatooed on the top of her foot. Talk about pain! Not much padding on the top of the foot.....(rolling eyes).
LOL Smiley,
The tufts on the cheeks tell you they are ameracana's, known as easter egg chickens.
Buddy likes her.
No Smiley, I have no tatoos...........no way!
smiley when you weigh 95lbs. you don't have any fleshy parts...woohoo I got a package!
OK, way past bed time for me.
Have to be back into work at midnight tonight.
Have a good day everyone ^_^
Hi ladies. Tra la la boom de yay,I have no work today. At least not for a few days. Jury came back with a guilty verdict. Judge handed down the death penalty for the sleeze. I wanted to jump up and cheer. Had to contain myself though. I got home at two fifteen. Happy as a little bug in a rug. The justice system still works. At least some times.
Good deal Dixie!!
What'd ya get Trina?
I just served on a jury dixiegril.
We handed in a guilty verdict.
But ours was DWI. Easy case.
A package not meant for me....my trader got me and someone else confused but that's ok....we're getting it taken care of
Hi Kassy. Good deal at least he or she cant kill any one while driving intoxicated. By the way, pretty chickens.
How are ya Smiley and Trina? I'm waving at yall. Wheres Venice? And Moon.

waving at you dixie getting things ready for the post office
Need to do a little house work. Uggggggggggg I get sick of house work. Was lazy over the weekend and didn't get hardly any thing in here accomplished. I'll be back a little later.
ok to all my regulars
I have 1 package of 20 Indian shot canna seeds
1 package of 20 Plumeria Luc's Thai Mix
1 package of 10 Plumeria Ammron's Curly Mix
1 package of 10 Plumeria Champoo Jack
1 package of approx 100 Double Maroon Hollyhock
approx 300 Single White Hollyhock seeds
about 100 anise hyssop 'Golden Jubilee'
about 100 easter lily type seeds
tons of double marigold, dark purple morning glory, dark pink morning glory, lunaria annua, yucca, and mixed single hollyhocks,
I already have a lot of those.
Thank you anyway. Moon suggested if there were any seeds that I didn't want, just send them back for the Newbie packages. I thought that was a good idea. No sense frustrating over them if you don't want them.
