weeee I like new scenery!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Oooooh! Aren't those beautiful.

Moon, DG said that this plant's hardiness zone is 9a-10b. I don't understand. I am 5b.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Nostalgia for you, heebie jeebies for me. lol

Liked it better when I had never seen one. Gonna blame it on the slug thread!

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I just don't understand how something as beautiful as a hydraenga could have no scent!

(Zone 5b)

that IS beautiful...I love the ones at Cape Cod....

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Thanks all. Venice, it means that they are a perennial plant in those zones, but are an annual in the other zones8b and down. They will winter over in the higher numbered zones.

JJ, DHJim uses salt to kill them. You pour salt on them and they melt to death....just like the wicked witch of the West did when hit with water....lol

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Hey, who all were on that slug thread from way back?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Moon, I thought that meant that it can only be grown in those zones! Sure glad I asked.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

you still didn't tell me what all you got in your packet Venice!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Everyone but Imazadi, Seed, Flowers and Trina I think. Maybe Dixie.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Trina, they are all mixed up now. I still haven't gotten all the info on Excel yet. Do you want some seeds now?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

That site really got excedingly gross! And slug movies! That is way too much!

(Zone 5b)

I think JJ found the "actors" from the slug movie...Whatever Happened to Those Slugs...they moved to JJ's, probably looking for chili *grin*

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Moon, I noticed that DG said the seeds are not true. Is that why you suggested that I do cuttings? Wow, a few more cold nights and it would have been a goner!

(Zone 5b)

Can anybody tell me how I clean those tubers? Just rinse & pat dry?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Sure! That's good.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Use a very soft brush or a rag with water if needed.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Moon I think I'm gonna need a lot of salt.
Maybe someone should come up with a salt based mulch??

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Dry for 3 days. I would put them on a cookie rack if you have one.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

JJ, you better get some Slugo or similar before they lay eggs or have babies!!!!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

You don't have to remove every speck of dirt Lynnie, and looking at you picture, there is very little attached, so you could just let them dry out in the garage for 2 or 3 days, then wrap them as Venice said.

Venice, some of the seeds will be New Guineas, some may be regular Impatiens and some will be I hawkeri....no way of knowing til you plant them, but in this case it really won't matter cuz they are all okay plants. It also means they may be different colors.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Lynnie I'll send you a couple slugs. They will clean "em for ya.

Just think next year I can have 'children of the corn' and the sequel ' The slugs that ate the children of the corn'.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Only problem with that JJ is ya wouldn't have any plants growing in it. Salt swells the capillaries and causes them to rupture, killing the plant.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

for the sweet taters?

Venice No I don't want seeds now, I'm just nosy and want to know what ya got, I sent my sasbe off last week so I'm just curious

and NO thankfully I was not on the slug thread, It was still going but I wasn't on it

we are supposed to visualize what we want ...... no my bloomin onion from outback steakhouse did not magically appear, nor did my water spider orchids, waaaaaahhh!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

LOL, JJ....hey Lynnie, our local dairy has a giant corn maze for Hallowe'en....wanna go?

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Maybe I'll just raise them. Seems to be easier than getting rid of them.

Then I can get rich selling them for fish bait.
What do you think??

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Now that is an idea. Except their lunch is your flowers!!!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Who ya gonna get to bait the hooks...EEwww, you'd have to touch them and that slime doesn't wash off easily...

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Venice I had put some slug killer out there. Looks to me like it was food instead. They sure got fat and big!

I couldn't find any sluggo around here so guess I'll have to order some from somewhere.
I would think they would be going underground so probably getting to late, but I will feed them the resat of what I got.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I bought something like Slugo at Menard's. I didn't want several pounds of the stuff and this container was the size of Kraft Parmesan Cheese container. I only saw 4 slugs and 2 were babies. After I sprinkled that stuff, all gone!

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

If they catch big fish the guys won't care if they get slimed.

Otherwise I could sell a bag of slugs with a salt shaker to the kids for educational entertainment.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

I checked in three towns around me and no one had any. So I bought whatever it is I have. (Can't remember the name) But don't think it worked.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

educational entertainment? yeah....kinda like when I got the boys a book called Backyard ballistics? LOL

(Zone 5b)

we did that earlier this year, there were a couple hundred baby slugs marching on my plants...ran right out with the salt.....I felt mean, but it was an emergency!

I thought the salt would kill the plants???

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I thought salt killed plants also.

Jesup, GA

And just, how in the heck is every one? Beautiful Hydrangeas Moon. LOL Trina, about the book. I bet young Hannibal loved it.

(Zone 5b)

the slugs weren't on my plants yet....I should have said marching toward my plants, sorry my fault :) and yes all that salt would kill the plants. They were on the march.

the slugs were marching two by two, the little one stopped....
