Purple Verbena - What to do with it for winter

Enid, OK

I have a massive amount of purple verbena I planted this sping. It has gone crazy this year. Now what do I do with it. It is running up onto my porch, into my yard.... It is everywhere. I am not complaining but is there a way to cut this back and save some over winter? I do not know if it will come back next year. I am told it will but want to save some just in case. I have no idea what to do or if you even can save cuttings. Any ideas?

Some Verbena would be hardy to your zone. Do you know which Verbena you have? Homestead Verbena is a popular "purple" blooming one.

I am almost certain it is homestead. I have to trim it back because it is everywhere. Will it take root in a pot or do I just throw the cuttings away?

Yes, your verbena will take root in a pot via cutting's . Just keep the soil moist until you see new growth on the plant.

Hot Springs Village, AR(Zone 7b)

We have Verbena canadensis (Rose Vervain) which grows wild in Arkansas (7b). Comes back every year.
