What's happening in your neck of the woods? #23

Victoria Harbour, ON

OMG Susan...now I'll tell you a story...

When Roger and I first were married he asked if I wanted to go out with a couple ..man worked with him..seemed like a nice couple..met them a few times...it was New Years' eve that we decided to have a few people over, I was sad because we were not going up north to where my family was..but, I got excited about having a New Years Eve party...I don't drink but I enjoyed watching everyone have a good time...shortly before midnight this couple got into an argument, because they had taken the bus we decided that it was time to drive them home...on the way home she started to hit him with her high heels, not just a little bang but wow, really hitting him so Roger being 6' and about 220 lbs. tries to separate them and leading them into their appartment building..guess with all the shannanigans going on the police were called in...Roger tells them what has happened, the husband and wife basically fall in love again and accuse Roger of being the nuissance...boy did that teach us a lesson..of course the police believe our story..we who were sober and they who couldn't stand up..lol

Such sad stories of abuse. I can understand wanting to stay and try to make it work out, been there, tried that. In a healthy relationship now going on 10 years.

I'm feeling particularly sad today. A friend, in her late 20's, died last night. Seems she had a pain in her leg, but didn't go to get it checked out. The assumption is that she died of a blood clot. She was a marine biologist, vibrant and a lovely person. Her brother was killed 4 years ago in an MVA. Her parents must be in shock and agony over losing 2 kids.

It's clear and 1*C here.

Blessings of peace to all

my goodness. Guess this just goes to prove that you should listen to your body, and take care of it. How long had she had this pain in her leg?

Take care, everyone. Life is precious. Treat it like the gift it is, and treasure it.
Share the beauty of each moment. Even the ones that look simple have their own quiet restfulness, meant to be enjoyed.

Just as is said in Desiderata:

desiderata - by max ehrmann

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love, for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is perennial as the grass.

Take kindly to the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.

Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

I have what I refer to as 'an ETERNAL, INTERNAL, furnace' .. some other ladies in my sphere of friends call it their 'Forever Summer' .. whichever way you cut it when you are in a room with a woodstove, you want to station yourself FAR away from it, or, run the risk of having to leave the room to go outside a retrieve 'something you left in the car', just to gain some relief !!! LoL

Just in from having Lilly out in the dark .. pretty dang cool out there .. it's 30F but we also have a windchill factor happening as well . Will be able to tell in a few minutes whether we will be in the cold WITH or WITHOUT sun .. seems a bit more tolerable WITH sun ^_^

Onward we go !!

Next week at Lougheed House is 'Christmas All Thru The House' All the rooms are decorated by a bevy of interior designers and if they look anything like last year it will be spectacular. Anyway I am working at the VIP evening on Tuesday and then every day except Wed! Not so bad as it sounds, 3 hour shifts each day.

So since late last winter new costumes have been underway for the historical interpretors and it has been PAINFULLY slow! My skirt, which is a lovely coral shade and for which I had a fitting in July needed to have the waist altered and it still is not done! But tonight I picked up my blouse which finally has been trimmed so here is a sneak peak. You cant see them well but there are pin tucks all down the front and around the sleeves and later she will cut out the fabric behind the lace so it shows up against my skin instead of the material of the blouse. The 'stuffing ' for the top of the sleeves has also not shown up so they dont sit up high the way they should. The blouses have been tea dyed so they are not the glaring white of the original fabric. There is also a jabot to be attached at the collar on with a nice pin. I will get pics at the house next week in full fig!
