I was going to say thanks to Marilynne for the update on Lorna and I'm certainly keeping Lorna in my prayers - especially with the blood clots which can be really serious.
Then I read the following posts.
I haven't been here a lot to offer up much of what's happening in MY neck of the woods lately, but I've been lurking. And I see nothing wrong with one thread where we diverge from "gardening" and share our own worries, concerns, etc. People are completely free to "unwatch" the thread. Maybe a case could be made for moving it over to the Parking Lot or other non-gardening forums, but it's unique in that this is primarily a CANADIAN group.
Ann
What's happening in your neck of the woods? #23
I kinda feel sick .. and I so apologize if I have offended anyone .. it was never my intent ..
Gosh I feel so bad.
M
OK .. I took a breath .. walked outside and back in .. and want to first .. again apologize for anything I said that put anyone ill at ease.
As Linda , bless her heart, said .. 'Most of us are active with d-mails and use them regularly. Sometimes though, it's nice to let others know what's going on' .. basically that is what I was attempting to do. DMailing each person on the forum would have been an onerous task to be sure.
I always thought, as Canadians, we shared Heritage as much as a love of gardening, and, I do think our Heritage is that of a country of CARING folk ..
I am so sorry for any objectionable comments.
~M~
YOU should not be apologizing, Marilynne.
I agree with Echoes.
What a wonderful day today is!! I finally got enuff sleep, and feel ready to tackle the world
As of yesterday, I'd only had 7 hours sleep in 2 days, with news about my sister, and what happened at work, I was pretty blasted. Crafting always gets me through (I embroidered over lunch for DG lol), and now that I have DG in my life (as well as other wonderful stuff like the great outdoors), I'm back to my normal calm and laughter. Moving onwards ^_^
I'll be able to get onto DG more often at home, cuz I'm not putting in the overtime as much (another reason I was feeling blasted yesterday - been working 3 hrs OT some days),
Beautiful people here, on DG, and I thank you all for being Just Who You Are (warts and all LOL)!!!
I got about 8 or so brug cuttings the other day (from burn_2007), and 2 quilt blocks from Signature Block Swap, and life is good! Betty - I know some of the leaves got broken from the Cane Begonia I sent you (thank you Joannabanana for giving me the original slip - it's doing beautifully), but Betty, when it's potted, does it look ok? Post, post, post pics, please!
One of these days I will post pics of my 2 camping trips to Waterton National Park (Canada side - on the US side it's Glacier National Park). It's a beautiful, natural area, and my DH & I intend on going back next year, A LOT lol
Moving onwards and upwards LOL

I recently received this story from a dear friend and wish to pass it on.
She wrote:
Recently, I overheard a father and daughter in their last moments together at
the airport. Departure time had just been announced.
Standing near the security gate, they hugged and the father said, "I love you,
and I wish you enough."
The daughter replied, "Dad, our life together has been more than enough. Your
love is all I ever needed. I wish you enough, too, Dad."
They kissed and the daughter left. The father walked over to the window where I
was seated.
Standing there I could see he wanted and needed to cry. I tried not to intrude
on his privacy, but he welcomed me in by asking, "Did you ever say good-bye to
someone knowing it would be forever?"
"Yes, I have," I replied. "Forgive me for asking, but why is this a 'forever'
good-bye?"
"I am old, and she lives so far away. I have challenges ahead and the reality
is, her next trip back will be for my funeral," he said.
"When you were saying good-bye, I heard you say, 'I wish you enough.' May I ask
what that means?"
He began to smile. "That's a wish that has been handed down from other
generations. My parents used to say it to everyone." He paused a moment and
looked up as if trying to remember it in detail, and he smiled even more.
"When we said, 'I wish you enough,' we were wanting the other person to have a
life filled with just enough good things to sustain them." Then, turning
toward me, he shared the following as if he were reciting it from memory:
"I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright no matter how gray the day
may appear.
"I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun even more.
"I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive and everlasting.
"I wish you enough pain so that even the smallest of joys in life may appear
bigger.
"I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
"I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
"I wish you enough hello's to get you through the final good-bye."
He then began to cry and walked away.
They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them,
a day to love them; but then an entire life to forget them.
TAKE TIME TO LIVE.....
To all my friends and loved ones, I WISH YOU ENOUGH.
Thanks for the postive post Susan..must be the day for it...
It's raining outside but it's a sunshine day in my life...
Life's certainly too short to not be happy don't you all think?
Lovely verse Susan, thanks for that. I'd love to see some photos of your trip to Waterton park. We've been to Glacier Nat'l park a couple of times. It's such a beautiful area.
It's overcast and I can see my breathe, something uncommon around here. I'm hoping to get a few windows from a friend that just had all of theirs replaced. My plan is to make a GH/cold frame/ some kind of plant protector.I am not the best using tools, but I always up for a challenge.
Hope everyone has a day that is like the kind we'd wish for you to have enough.
Glad you liked it.
Did you go to the Northern part of Glacier? We took the cruise ship to the Montana side, and got off at the Ranger's Station. That was so kewl! The narator had quite a spiel about mountains and how we're losing them. They won't be built up anymore, but rather - they're disintigrating..... and descriptions of the patterns in the rocks was very informative (Chevron pattern - like quilting!). We loved it!
Hopefully I'll get it done this weekend! My DH wants to go to a Hallowe'en party on Friday, so we're going to get all dressed up!! I'll take pics ^_^
~Susan~
Wow, a greenhouse, how lucky you are..are they the older type windows..must check..did have a photo somewhere that someone did something similar..you sound like me..if I want it bad enough I'll try making anything..most of the time it works...
hiya ^_^
What a glorious day weather wise here .. have been home for a bit .. long enough to scan the veg garden and take note of the cabbage .. doubt they'll tighten up anymore .. so .. may be time to break out the SLAW board and the CROCK .. altho .. with maybe only 6 medium cabbage to harvest perhaps a ham would be better LoL
Just noticed the fur jackets on my Clematis .. haven't been paying attention as I should be .. but ... one thing that is absolutely drop dead gorgeous and glorioso here right now are the TAMARACKS .. I could take a pic, but am sure it could NEVER do it justice .. the amber gold of them this year is spectacular !!!!
Good day spent at the hospital .. that makes me smile ^_^
~M~
^_^ ^_^ ^_^
I'm smiling right along with you, ~M~
~Susan~
~M~ good to hear that you've finally had a decent day at the hospital.
When you mentioned that Tamaracks were glorioso, I thought immediately about the glorioso lily.
Here's a few photos. It would be lovely to make a GH, but it maybe something more like an oversize cold frame, or 1/2 of a GH against the house. I just need to scavenge some bits of wood...
Check this out: turn up the sound!

OH Carol !! How wonderful !!!!
Found that quite enjoyable to watch .. and .. wonder if it would work her in Canada, say in Toronto ? Be interesting to see ^_^
Great pics MG .. hard to believe that 'elegant creature' (the jellyfish) can sting ya so badly !!!!
Just had a rather large skunk parade across the far lawns .. headed for the road .. sure hope he/she makes it across .. even though they ARE stinky .. I kinda think they're cute too LoL
~M~
that's great! music and gardens, what else do we need?!
Chocolate and wine
and a little brie
I usually have a cheese and biscuit snack in the afternoons ( although it was popcorn today- the dogs like popcorn days!)
have you tried these?
Goat cheese with cranberries , St Andre , Stilton with Mango and Ginger.
This message was edited Oct 28, 2009 5:05 PM
hahahaha music, chocolate, cheese(y?), and WINE - with some roses - my idea of a perfect evening (once we turn on the Chick Flicks!)
hahaha I think we've stumbled onto something good.
I've tried the goat cheese and cranberries, not bad, but I don't care for cranberries so that may be i"m not head over heels for it. I wouldn't try the Stilton with mango and ginger. They're just not on my list of favourite foods. I never thought of myself as being a fussy eater, but I think it's true of me, the older I get.
hmmmmmmmmmmm, ain't NONE of us old that I can tell, anyway!! So don't u be telling us any differently, m'dam! lol
~Susan~
♪♫♫♪♫
Hmmm .. looks like I missed the PARTY in here last night. Any leftovers !!??
About 4 times a year, maybe less, I have a bud who travels to , I belive, Thornloe ON to purchase cheese from a 'store/plant' there. It's awesome stuff and she usually leaves TBay with orders in excess of $1000. The cheese in approx $45./brick .. but worth every penny. It's OLD Cheddar .. white ..either 4 or 7 years old .. the 4 year old is my favourite.
The plant has some beautiful flower gardens on the grounds as well.
Off n' runnin !!
~M~
mmmmmmm I love the OLD cheddar. Only kind of cheddar we get.
I love the specialty cheeses too. Bob & I like them with garlic sausage and specialty crackers, at night, with a glass of wine, or maybe some hot chocolate or tea.
We've recently started drinking Ginger/Honey Green Tea (good for the throat - especially for singing lol).
~Susan~
My apologies. I was having a few bad days & lashed out onto undeserving souls. I think I'm over "my moment".
Joanne
It's not easy doing a life.
This message was edited Oct 30, 2009 1:35 AM
All I can say is, Joanne, that I thought something must have been bothering you, and I wasn't going to ask (or pry) what it was until you volunteered it. That's not my way.
On my end, at least, I most assuredly accept your apology. You & I have spent good times together, and I anticipate more. You are a gracious host, and a loving person. Take care of yourself, though whatever "bad days" you have.
~Susan~
I will simply reiterate Echoes .. "It's not easy doing a life"..
Carumba .. looks like we have more than a bit of rain in the puddles outside. Good for the WELLS ou this way :-)
Let Lilly out before bed last night and was astonished to see so many 'DEWIES' (earthworms, big'uns) sloggin along the patio .. would not have been surprised at perhaps 2 or 3, but, I counted at least 12 .. would imagine they were either headed for the lawn, or trying to burrow in between the patio bricks ? Anyone have any ideas on that ?
Taking a bit of time for ME today, driving to the Minnesota/Ontario border to pick up a parcel I ordered. About an hour to get there .. will get to see more 'glorioso Tamaracks', and what's left of the leaf display up this way, albeit in the rain.
TGIF all
~M~
LOL Marilyn. When there is a lot of rain there the sidewalks are always covered with dew worms! I think they are looking for a dry spot somewhere.
Marilyn - you just reminded me of something.......... I should get my passport, a US post office box, and get US parcels sent to me there LOL
After all, I'm not far from the Montana border - 3 1/2 hrs..... Is that what you do re: parcels?
~Susan~
Joanna, I've been guilty of that myself sometimes, lashing out. apology accepted.
I don't know if any of you are watching the progress of the Olympic Flame... They'll be lucky if the winds don't blow it out. Lotsa leaves coming off today. Garbage cans just blew over, and the approaching clouds are looking ominous. Glad I'm inside!
Mmmm, personal time. Once the Fed ex guy does his pickup, it's back to bed for me.
Linda
I'm just going to stay in and work on my Tote Bag for the swap :-)
Sorta "me" time, but I'm also checking my emails for work lol
~Susan~
hahahaha that looks sorta like my old fir tree. I love those faces on the trees.
Mine was sent to me by a DG'er, in a Stuffed Envelope Swap.
Well, it's 12:30, and already gotten to +4c - the hot part of the day is yet to come.....
I find it funny when a garden visitor does a double take when they notice it. They are great year round. The squirrels knock the pieces off sometimes.
