I'm finding the previous thread is getting a bit too long to load well even with my "hi-speed lite". So, I hope Betty will excuse me for starting a new thread. You'll find the previous thread at: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1028277/
What's happening in your neck of the woods? #23
Thanks for moving us on over Ann ... always find it interesting that we have maybe 150 posts and over a thousand views in this forum ^_^
Hope everyone has a productive week !!
~M~
Thanks Ann..surprise/surprise another heavy rain day and calling for much the same all week...
"M" garbage day tomorrow, what's left over, including pies will be disposed of..tooooo tempting..had a piece last night and after eating it wanted to slap my hands for reaching for it...
Got 1 costume almost done..must drop into Fabricland on my way home from work..
Now I remember why I'm not fond of sergers..they say this one I bought is color coded and easy as 1-2-3..well let's just say after playing for a few hours yesterday it's back at the Janome dealer at lunch..I'll watch more closely...
Did you all enjoy your Thanksgiving?
Thank you Betty - I hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving as much as we did!!
This long weekend was just what we needed - vegging out the entire weekend. Got a couple things done. I did a banner for the church I'd been promising for "ever-so-long", and Bob got the new faucet installed (it leaked whenever we hooked up the dishwasher, and we couldn't leave it alone lol).
It was so nice and quiet.... sorta....... was in a choir Friday for a funeral, spent about 9 hours making the banner on Sat (our anniversary, and enjoyed the pizza lol), and Sunday of course was church and bowling. Monday we didn't eat our turkey until about 6:30/7pm.... then I got lazy again - didn't even get dressed until 5pm LOL
~Susan~
Got really cold here (-16ºC on the weekend) and has snowed enough that I had to shovel the walks. I plugged in the dog house heater, which Todd loves. He spends the night in the house, but during the day he is an outside dog. The heater is the best thing I bought for him. It comes on by sensing his body weight and also it needs to be near freezing out. His water dish is also heated to keep the water from freezing.
OMG, never heard of a doggie heater...now where would one find such an invention...ahhhh to be a dog..what a life!
Princess Auto. They have an Ag/Pet section. Much safer than heat lamps
LOL...looks like one content pup! Great idea.
the life of a dog, eh?
my DH put our heating pad in the bed for me, so it's nice and toasty (right around my butt, which is the coldest part of me, he says - until I touch my feet to him LOL)
~Susan~
Kewl Beans Joanne .. Todd looks content and toasty warm ^_^
We haven't a Princess Auto .. but I know where there is one in Winnipeg .. if I get back there (it looks like I may) I'll have to buzz on in for a wee peek a boo :-)
Found out Lorna's parents flight leaves at 0630 Sunday morning ... I'll be up before 0500 to drive in and get them to the airport .. tomorrow Morning is a 6am morning as I am accompanying Lorna it a docs appt at the Cancer Clinic .. she doesn't have cancer, but, her hematologist has an office there .. she'll go by wheelchair cab and I'll meet her there .. we plan to go for breakfast in the hospital after the 15 minute appt., then go to visit her boss who remains in hospital.
Busy days .. can honestly say I am slowly poopin out !!!!
TOODLES
~M~
Marilyn, I'm not surprised you're poopin out.......... slowly or otherwise..................
apparently the Drs think Winnipeg is the place to sort things out, so I'm glad she's going there.
Take care hon, she needs you to be hale & hearty for her, and her folks.........heck, WE need you to be hale & hearty............
Bless you, Marilyn, for all you're doing.
~Susan~
Hi all.
I am not exactly new here but have not posted too much on this forum.
For those who asked: I've lived in BC for the last nine years and am American but with permanent residency here.
I love gardening, obviously, and I do love BC. Grew up in the US Midwest but I think mountains and oceans must be somewhere in my blood.
I just got home from a 12 hour shift (I'm a nurse, NICU) and when I get to some days off I will check in again. Thanks for your warm welcome!
Take care.
Cin
Welcome, Cin. ^_^
Hi Cindy .. welcome from me as well.
I am a nurse too .. am thnkin there are a few of us on this forum. NICU was never my forte .. labour and delivery were my 'thing' for a bit though ^_^
Susan .. any trips back to WPG will be (I hope) far into the future. Trips made east or west now from TBay are taken with extreme caution with regards to weather conditions. Just glad Lorna has a hematologist here in TBay.
Time to chomp some Cheerios!!
~M~
"M" you never did get south this summer did you???? Isn't it strange, we sometimes think we're out of energy and before you know it, we're recharged..thinks it's helping people that acts as the recharger..look after yourself though..
Joanne, there is a Princess Auto here in Barrie..don't often frequent the store as it's right next door to Busy Bee Tools and you know me and tools...will have to make a trip in and see if they have one...maybe I'll give them a call..now what do you actually call it? "M" could pick one up and ship it to you???
Cin, welcome to our side of the border as well...those are long hours you are working..I've always so admired nurses..although I love working with people, more the aged, don't think I could handle what comes with nursing...
Don, frost on the windows this morning and the sun is trying to come out....thinking of you out there, bet it's almost summer weather..when do you leave to go south, shortly or are you there already and I've missed it....
Susan, you keep out of mischief today! lol
I'm just like a kid (one who loves Christmas) .. leaving Friday afternoon for Frankenmuth...now there is a Christmas shop..Christmas all year round...going to exchange $$$ today...feels good about the exchange but really not the best for our economy..manufacturing is sure to get hit big time...
Not much to do here in the office, boss gone on holidays..got me a wooden sock with a snowman to paint..lol..ahhh isn't being in the workforce stressfull...NOT!
It's called a heated pet mat. There are different sizes. Looks like Princess auto also does on-line orders. Here's a link to a 17" x 24". Be sure to get a heavy duty outdoor 12 or 10 gauge extension cord, Home Depot the best, that is no longer than you really need.

Betty, not summerlike conditions here at all. Rainy and a very cool 6C here this morning. Haven't got any white stuff yet; just looking at pictures makes me nauseous. Talked to my Mom on the weeknd in Edmonton. She says there is snow on the ground there and a sister-in-law north of Edmonton tells me the same story. My daughter attended a wedding on the weekend in a place called St. Paul, AB, and they very ingeniously combined the early snowfall into their fall theme. Kinda neat, but can you imagine the shock! (Photo below)
Not heading south until next month. Looking forward to it.
Donna,
That's where I'm from and where our farm is...St.Paul
Quite pretty there. In the heart of the Lakeland
More snow but warming up.
I got out my Dads old electric snow shovel - have had it for years but never tried to use it- fortunately have an extension cord that goes pretty much all over the yard- and shoveled the back yard patios and walks and the car pad. Works pretty good although very noisy and the snow blows straight out in front so you really need to angle it. I ended up covering my newly cleared car with more snow. What was on the car was actually already melting.
So much not cleared up yeat, all the clematis and the hops for starters and hate to leave the peony foliage. Hope the end of the week will be warm enough to melt some of the snow and work outside. Still have to get those lily bulbs in the ground!
Betty - too tired to act up today.
no mischief here. Just popped in for few to say HI! ^_^
cya on the flip side........
Wow Don, from the looks of the photo the snow just added that special touch..no way they could have planned any better..(as long as it was ONLY a few flakes) lol..
Fancy, do you cut down your hops?? they cover my arbors, I usually just leave them and that way they have something to attach their feelers to..
Kyle (GS) just called said my son Greg just flew into Winnipeg on business...wonder what kind of weather they are having..
WOW .. nice pic Donna .. are those wedding rings on the flower or am I seeing things ??
Betty, thanks so much for the offer re the heated pet mat. Lilly loves being outside in winter, but, once we go inside, so does she .
Lorna made out well with the hematologist visit today .. in fact, once it was done, we had breakfast at the hosp, visited her boss, and then .. well .. we pulled a THELMA AND LOUSIE LoL .. I asked Lorna if she felt she could tranfer into my car .. she said sure .. and .. she did .. I was able to slip her wheelchair into the trunk .. and like any TRUE Canadians we headed for .. TIM HORTONS .. ^_^ .. anyway .. we now know she can tansfer to and from a car with no problem ... she still is not BIG on going home for a visit as she feels she won't want to go back to hosp.
Wet snow .. aka SLOP .. predicted for tomorrow .. and so it goes!!!!
~M~
Betty yes I usually take down my hops. Well not this year! They are growing on lattice so I dont need the old vines for support. I just feed a few shoots thru the lattice as they come up and then they take off!
LOL...good for you. Tim Horton's is probably just what the doctor didn't order, but good for the soul to get away like that.
Yes, those are the Bride and Groom's rings on that flower. Betty, apparently had about two inches on the ground on Saturday.
Betty - right now it's raining in Winnipeg, and plus 1c.........
They're having better weather than Calgary, f'sure! lol
~Susan~
Welcoming my Canadian friends to this workshop...
For anyone wishing to join our 3rd. DG Christmas Workshop, I'll post the following thread link...
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1048304/
On the cool side but sunny here...just getting gear together to head to Frankenmuth..you know me and Christmas, can't tell you how exited I am to get some project ideas..as though I needed them!
Enjoy your weekend everyone...
Betty - you have dmail :-)
SHALZBAT!!!!! Never hit the 'backspace' button when you are creating a post !! Lost my whole post ....
Anyway ... Good News from me to you ^_^
Lorna is able to take an LOA whenever she wants ... SOooooooooooooo ... since I am cooking a prime rib dinner for her folks today as they leave bright and early Sunday morning ...... Lorna is coming home for the afternoon to share the meal!! Her first time out (except for the Thelma and Louise attempt) since Sept. 2. Looking forward to seeing her happy, AND, her parents as well.
Hope everyone has an awesome weekend !!
~M~
"warm'here since Wed evening, snow melting.
I got some things cut down and two lots of lilies planted but cant remember where the markers are for the ones in the front yard. Neighbors will wonder why Carol is sweeping snow off the flower beds!
Out to Canmore yesterday with the dogs to do a home visit evaluation for Collie Rescue, now trying to help arrange transport for a dog coming from Stoon next week who needs to go to a foster home an hour east of me but is going to be in Lethbridge.
Had a nice surprise in the mail yesterday when a cheque arrived from the prov.govt- rebate of a portion of education taxes! Dont think I ever formally applied for it but perhaps they are going thru their records and picking up seniors like me who didnt apply. Pays for our next set of dog rally obedience classes which starts next week!
Today is the Blessing of The Anmals service at the cathedral downtown but for the first time in some years I think I am going to skip this one.
Glad to hear that Lorna can escape for soem real food.
Welcome Cin, my area was adult ICU/open heart.
Last week there were a few churches in town blessing animals.
I've been laying low this past week, a persistent headache.
Victoria has entered the rainy season, BCer's don't tan, they rust!
Linda
It's a lovely afternoon here in the interior. Sun is shining and it's a comfortable 17 degrees.
Linda, noticed on the Weather Network that Victoria was the hotspot for Canada yesterday at 19.7 degrees.
Marilynne, hope you, Lorna and Mom & Dad enjoy the Prime Rib dinner. Sounds wonderful!
Looking forwards to ONE last gorgeous fall day today. Temps aof 14C are predicted.
Lorna"s parents are now home .. happily we were able to get an LOA for Lorna and she enjoyed the prime rib meal Saturday and came home again yesterday for the day. We are working on perhaps seeing if she can have a weekend pass which would enable her to stay overnight Fri and Sat and go back into hospital Sunday, however, her incision line has decided to cause a few problems .. so .. that may not happen.
We are finding it frustrating to NOT have access to Handicapped parking spots as the form for same must be sent away and will take 4-6 weeks to come back !! I am calling the Min of Transport (or whatever office ) today to plead my case. Surely a 'temporary sticker' can be issued. As a licensed member of the College of Nurses, I can fill the form out and have done so .. just have to wade through the bureaucracy now. Not sure how much more pushing and pulling my hands can take . Lorna is very adept at transferring etc .. but .. uphill is uphill and the handicap spots at the hosp are on the flat !!
All the flowers are now gone .. leaves are about done falling too .. looks kinda dreary out there .. but .. the chimney sweeps arrive tomorrow, and, it always seems, once they have done their job, it snows !!
Making pickled beets today before going to the hospital .. gonna have PINK hands for a bit I guess .. but .. all worth it ..
ENnoy your week everyone
^_^
~M~
Morning everyone, or is it? bit confused..left Friday afternoon to go to Frankenmuth Mi. ...got there after 10pm, shopped at a few 24 hr. stores..up and out at 8am, never got in till 10pm (talk about shop till you drop) up early Sun. and shopped all day..never left the outlet till 6pm..ran into long wait at the border, the traffic near Sarnia...omg, 4am when we got home, did a load of wash this a.m./picked up a few goodies for the office (diet foods) and was here 10 minutes early..
Rita had her camera with her..we took photo's of all we bought..anything that had packaging had to be taken out of the package .. there wasn't a square inch that didn't have something, including on our lap, under the seat, even sitting on bags...we've got to come up with something different next year..like rent a motorhome..lol..
It's a sunshine day here, bit cool but better than rain or snow...
Having the marina come and shrink wrap the Foxy Lady tonight..because I'm so tired might ask them to change appt. until later in the week..doubt I'll be up much later than 6:30 pm....
"M" that's great news about Lorna...you would think there would be temporary passes "M"..hope the ministry is helpful..beets...been quite a few years since I've done canning...maybe next year..loved pickled beets...
OOOH Fancy, extra $$$...always a place it can be used..
Going to put my head back...boss said he'll wake me if he needs me..lol
Enjoy your day..may it be a sunny one...
Oh my doG Betty! That certainly is the definition of shop till you drop isnt it!
The past few days it warmed up but has been cloudy and misty, all the snow in town is melted and I finally got the last of the lily bulbs in today. Got a bit more perennial trimming done too, maybe have another 2 bagfuls to cut down, try to get it done tomorrow m store the last few things in the shed and then it is put to rest for the winter!
My friend coming to trim cats nails after work - the first time since I lost Chelsea. Sally will really miss her - Chelsea always went after her toes - the only person she did that with! It will be interesting to see if Jazz comes downstairs on his own which he has been doing whenever somebody comes in - never used to.
I was catching mice last week - wont tell you how many!
HURRAH !! I did get a temporary 'Handicap sticker' .. will need it soon as Lorna has an appt with her hematologist at another hospital on Wed.
Betty .. I sure am glad there are people like you in this world .. LOL .. I LOATHE shopping .. I'm one of these people you see beetling into a store and heading for ONE area, making a purchase and zippin out again .. eyes focused straight ahead, no browsing ^_^
Awww Carol .. it will be a good memory perhaps for Sally .. sad though as she will anticipate the toe play ..
MICE .. jeeze Louise !!! Was 'primping' in my bathroom last week .. heard a noise .. as Lilly is ALWAYS at my feet .. she heard it too. Overhead in the attic ... scritch, scritch, scritch ... traps were placed .. so far only ONE culprit .. somehow it sounded like WAY more than that !!!
Pickled beets turned out well .. sure did have lotsa splatters of red here and there on the ceramic backsplash !!! Still have one more basket to put down but am thinking I may try making Harvard Beets.
Off to do laundry
TTFN
~M~
My mice are only in the basement and under the kitchen sink. Well maybe they are other places but I just dont know it!
I pickled beets one year - took me all morning and in the end I only had two small jars of beets! Dont bother any more. However Fancy was helping me with the harvest and caught her chomping on the beets one morning and g ot this rather scarey looking pic!
