Where can I find Egyptian/walking onion sets? I've done some Googling and looked at some online bulb stores but I haven't turned up much.
Naturally would prefer a brick-and-mortar source near Philadelphia but online would do.

Hi, I'm not sure where exactly to find those specific walking onions, and to find the sets might be difficult. However, if you just go to a seed catalogs web site like jonnys, vis, burpees, etc. just to a search, surely you can find the seeds. . Onions are easy to start from seed. Just get some good soil in any container, a 6 pack from the nursery or whatever, plants them about a quarter inch deep, and about 10 per unit. water once, keep inside until you see the first sign of germination, then keep them out so they can get sun, watering regularly. when they all come up, just seperate them and good to go!
Hope you find this helpful

Egyptian onions are rarely started from seed. They are topsetting onions and rarely produce seed. Sets or plants are about the only way the general public will find them. Territorial or Southern Exposure are companies that carry the sets. Major companies like Johnny's , Burpee, Baker Creek, Fedco etc don't carry them.
The bulblettes need to be planted that season, as they don't keep. i once requested some from a seed group here in austrlia and found I got sent heaps. I tried to save some till the next year; no good. However, because they wont last people, were happy to give them away, so maybe try a communitee group.
If you still haven't found a source for Egyptian onions come May, I would be glad to send you some plants as soon as they are up enough to id. They have become weeds here. I will be keeping a few clumps in some areas and then chunking out plants and throwing them in the compost bin. Might as well send the excess plants where they will be appreciated. Let me know if you are still looking.
I'll be glad to send anyone some also. I always seem to have plenty. I'll add i also plant them with my hostas to keep the critters away. I never know where one will pop up i've planted so many everywhere.
