What is snow? ^_^
Just for Fun, Tell us Your Weather?
My house is 70 degrees inside this morning. I have a jacket on (LOL)....but don't want to turn the heat on as I know it will warm up today in the 70's...........
To my knowledge and I am an old lady, it has only snowed two times in Taft since I was born. When I was in high school it barely snowed............and then about 10 years ago we got about 7" of snow and those are the only two times in my life.......
anna: Highland, IL is 32 miles East of St. Louis, MO-that is where I work.
70 degrees!! thats a heat wave! Its sooo pretty this morning, the rain has stopped and the sun is shining!! It shows 43 outside right now, but thats in the shade-its 64 inside. But will warm up quickly.
I'm lovin this round robin deal, and I haven't even got the box yet!!!!
Laura H
I gave in to the 70 degrees inside the house and turned the heat on.........just to take the chill out.........don't like having to wear a warm up jacket in my own house.
Bet the streps liked it, though.
LOL Gail! It's all in what you're used to! It's 62 outside and I just flung open every window I could to air the house out! It stormed last night (tornado warnings, but thank the Lord, none touched down that I know of) and continued a soft rain all night and into this morning. I LOVE this weather!
Problem is... the weather had said it was going to be 42 Monday morning, so I've started bringing in plants. Now they've changed it so that it's supposed to be warm until NEXT Sunday morning. So, I'm in a dilemma - I can't decide whether to put stuff back out for another week, or just keep what's already inside in and leave the other stuff out for another week.
LOL Gail , 70 degrees and you wear a coat :) sooooooo funny , it is 27 this morning and we got an inch of snow overnight , the sun is out , so weird this time of year , I can look at my locust tree against the blue , blue sky and think it is Summer still but then lower my eyes to the should be green grass and see the white cold ground and watch the snowfaries rushing across the yard , the wind pushing them along :)
We don't usually get snow this early and will most likely get warm Indian Summer weather again before the Winter moves in all his luggage but for today looking high it is Summer but looking low the Winter is sneaking in and the wind whispers .............WINTER :) and my Summer shade is on the ground under my ash trees :)
Shanika I do have one Christmas Cactus , it has peach color blooms .....................but it is out on the deck , so maybe I don't have a Christmas cactus anymore :) it might be a Christmas Popsicle now but time will tell :)
I wish you all a lovely comfortable day , whatever that means to you :)
Comfortable Hugs :)
Connie
I am keeping the heat on all day at 72.........still have my jacket on (LOL)
My streps will just have to like my heater.....I am trimming them up today and watering.......
Once you finally get used to the heat we have, your body doesn't adjust quickly to cold damp weather.............
Ya I know , people seem very good at adjusting to whatever kind of weather they get used to but here I have to say we get all the range of temps and weather , 90s in the Summer and down to even 60 below zero one time a few years ago ( not the norm but it happens ) most years 30s below is as cold as we get but my heat is never turned up past 65 to 67 , higher and it just gets too warm when I work around the house so if it gets really cold I back and make soup and use the crockpot and that kind of thing so that heats the house too but is productive at the same time , today I am making apricot walnut bread and wild rice soup to cozy everyone so we cold place people adapt back and forth as I am sure everyone does when the seasons change :) kind of fun for me and I am used to it as I have lived here all my life :)
Warm Hugs Gail :) and all who are cold :)
Connie
Connie..........we had over 90 days of over 96 degrees with heat index of over 105...........we are close to the coast and the humidity hovers around 90% which means that this cold is so different from a dry cold. I remember living in a dry cold climate with snow for at least 6 months out of the year, but it was a dry climate. It didn't bother me at all.
When it is 40 degrees here, I can't stand to even be outside..........it just blows through your whole body........
(I am thinking that you also have humid weather.....do you in the winter?)
the humidity varies , we get the snow when it is humid but I use creams and lotions on my hands all winter trying to fight the dry even if it is humid it still seems dry because of having the heat one even though I don't have it on high ,and I don't even have it on in the bedrooms cause I like it cool when I sleep , but yes I know what you mean , if the humidity is high it is so much colder than the temp seems and so much hotter if the humidity is high , today is damp and cold and the cold does go right through to the bones when it is like this so I know ex0actly what you mean , I wonder if Jim got snow last night too , it has all melted now :) but still cold .
Gail do you have Tar Jar Roger and Fancy Pants streps ? I am wondering if you find the blooms to be almost the same colors ?
Connie :)
Hi Ladies ,
My Tar Jar looks a lot like Fancy pants but so far it doesn't have the two colors of blooms , just the fantasy blooms but sometimes it will have a bloom with more pink too so maybe off and on it will have both colors of blooms , the only thing is when you have both solid and fantasy blooms on one plant you are supposed to take off the solid color blooms so the whole plant doesn't revert to just the solid color , it is the same with variegation , if you have solid color parts you are supposed to cut that part off and cresting plants too , if you get normal growth you are supposed to cut it off , I am wondering though if you have an older strep plant and it has always bloomed with both solid and fantasy blooms , I wonder if it would make a difference , I could see if the leaves were variegated and then went to a solid green leaf that maybe you might be loseing the variegation but are the blooms the same idea ? I bet Jim knows , I have not had streps long enough to be sure of the fantasy and solid blooms on the same plant .........................wow I rambled LOL , I hope you got what I was driving at otherwise I must have hit a dead end or my train is off the track :)
Connie:)
I am so confused........I think I posted the same plant twice on two threads.........
Sorry Gail , I did post on 2 threads but by this time I forget why LOL
Connie
I just use the same old excuse when I post the same thing twice........senior citizen!! (LOL)
Do have my sweatshirt off again.......and air conditioning back on........smiling....
Gail ,
Do you know the name of the strep that is on the thread that Chulin started about her AVs that she potted in little bonsai pots , ...........Susan posted a bunch of strep pics and I would like to know if you know what pic #2 is , you have seen so many I thought you might know what it is , I so want one , it is lavender with darker lavender markings
Hope you can help :)
Thank you ;
Connie :)
Let me go look and see...........be back........
I don't have a clue, Connie. Have never seen her ..........Susan sent me tons of leaves and they are all stuck now.......maybe she included that one?

I just remembered she sent me AKO Lava Flow and I stuck them........just went to look at www.streptocarpus.com and that is the second picture that Susan posted. I will hope for babies and share with you..........
Oh Ok Gail , I hoped you might have an idea of what she might be , she is sooooooooo pretty , I will have to keep my eyes open on ebay to see if I see one that looks like her , I am going to look at the stretocarpus site too , thank you for looking , glad you are warm now , the snow is all melted here too but still windy and cold .
Gail do you know if there is mail delivery on Monday , it is Columbus day and I was going to send out a box to Jan but am wondering if there is mail , the postal people have the odd holidays off as well as the ones most of us get off so just wondering , don't want to pack up a box Sunday and not be able to mail it on Monday .
Connie
AKO Lava Flow is a pink and coral fantasy and Susan's pic #2 is light and dark lavender
Connie
OK>>>then I am wrong but she did send me AKO Lava Flow and all the names are on makers under press and seal for now.......
The post office will be closed on Monday and I am going to be in a bind......will have to pack up on Monday and mail on Tuesday. I hate to do that. Maybe I can get it all done Tuesday morning before 3 when packages have to be there if I want them to go out on same day.
why is the po closed on mon
I don't know............Nichole told me.........it must be Columbus Day or some innocuous holiday......

JIM
Hi Jim ,
Do you know what Susan's #2 strep pic in the Chulin's bonsai pots thread is ? I really would like to know and you and Gail know so much about streps and have seen so many of them , will you go and look at the pic and see if you know what it is ? ...........please ?
Connie
I stuck several leaves so let me know.........I stuck them this time in straight perlite......hope it works..........
Always tell me and remind me..........
I am going to the OCtober gessies and start a new thread.........the only way I know how to find good streps is just to buy and trade with one another........you never know when you are going to fall in love with one you have never grown......that is why I love getting and sending leaves.......
Me too Gail and you and Jim have sent me some nice strep leaves and so far they are doing good , can't wait to see them bloom:)
Connie
RainGazer do you know why they stopped growing the buckleyi? They are not as pretty I much prefer the gentle scalloping of the original. It's probably less expensive somehow as that seems to be how more companies run. I'd pay more to get the original but no one seems to even offer them. You are very kind to offer and also lucky to have found one.
Laura, ah I know generally speaking where you are.
i dont know whtat that one is connie,it probally wont keep blooming like that, and will probally revert back to 5 petal, thought it might be jeoulous heart but its not, soon as i run across it ,ill post
JIM
I am going to look at Jealous Heart......Sorano......I used to have her.
I just went to Lyndon Lyon Greenhouses and checked their new strep list..........it is fantastic....but I ordered Elizabeth and she certainly doesn't look like his picture. I always get at least two that are mismarked from them..........
Thank you Jim , I just love the color of that strep , thank you for looking :)
Connie
weather in central Virginia is about 60.................cloudy...........have had fantastic (in 70's) weather for a few weeks...lots of sun...........tomorrow should be in the 70's, too..
After Florida for 30 years, this is a 'walk in the park'! nicely inbetween western Ny where I originated!
Gail, the 'babies' you sent me are thriving beautifully.....:)
Still hot. May be under 90 on Friday. Thank God for air conditioning.
Pat
It's still way too hot and humid here in Florida, I'm so ready for some cooler temperatures! We've had record breaking heat the past couple of weeks here in central Florida ... low to mid 90's with humidity @ 90 as well, which really makes it miserable ... I wilt the minute I walk out the door!
Pat: We get the Orlando t.v. stations over here in Daytona Beach and yippee!! Saturday, Sunday and Mondays high's are supposed to be mid to upper 70's! What a wonderful change! Oh, how I hope it stays this way for the rest of the year!
Our DS was freezing at 60 in San Antonio yesterday.....not used to our temps here anymore....chuckle.
It was a bit chilly yesterday . . . felt like the holidays!
Well I guess it kinda was....he had a 3 day weekend!!
Oh plantlady,
You know what I am taking about then:) It will be great when it cools down.
Nicole, "a bit chilly and felt like the holidays? " Grrrr.... It feels like July 4th here, LOL!
Pat
