October blooms

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Orchidfancy, That really is one of the loveliest arrangements I've seen. Are the flowers in the top also Dahlias? They look a lot like spider mums. I still have to look into that LLB. I haven't seen anyone grow that around here. Thanks for reposting this.

My car got pretty muddy with all of the rain on Saturday, but the Impatiens loved it.

Can you believe that I still have Oriental lilies opening? This is one of the ones that I planted in August. I think they are blooming now because they were freshly dug and not precooled. This one is called Rio Negro.

Look at these nice Echies that came from Starlight. These are one of the new bright red varieties called Hot Papaya. Her plants always do extremely well for me. Look for her ads in the classifieds. She is a great asset to DG.

Stormila , The flowers on top are spider mums . I have several of them in different colors , I love them they are so inusual and look so good in bouquets. The love lies bleeding I have them for several years they reseed themselves everywhere I only keep a few. The golden finches love them . This year I did not plant a thing in my front yard because everything reseeded from last year... the white the pink and the red sage explodes and so did the cosmos all attracting hummingbirds, golden finches and butterflies, few shrewsand few nesting rabbits under the dahlias LOL. My yard is registered as a wildlife habitat...

Tha's incredible those lilies blooming in the fall lucky you...

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Orchidfancy, That is one beautiful set of beds. Are you serious about the registry? I am very sunlight challenged, my beds are mostly all under trees. I will never have a glorious bloom like that. But I enjoy what I have anyway.

What varieites of red sage do you have? I've been looking to add one or two. There have been tons of birds and butterflies in my beds this year, just no Hummers.

That's great that you have so much reseeding going on. Sure cuts down on the garden work and $.

Stormila . I dont have any idea what kind of sage that I have. I know that they do well in full sun and just as well in semi shade . My back yard is either full or semi shade and the sage does well there , actually better because id does not bake under the summer sun. So i plntes some in the back yard some reseeded but not as much. The pink and the white are from last years's planting the red I have had for the past 10 years and I pick the seeds in the fall . I will do the sme for the white and the pink this year. I also have wild ageratum that i have scaterred in the front and the back yard and that is doing well also... I am a strong believer is easy gardening since I cannot tolerate the heat in the summer.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

I hear you Orchidfancy. I am sooo not a heat lover. I'm finding that a lot of full sun plants actually do better for me in semishade.

cambridge md, MD(Zone 7a)

if you are interested i am sure that i can spare some seeds of the three different colors.. You can start them inside or scater them on the ground in May and wait....

Thank you, Orchidfancy. That's very kind. I would love some. Watch for dmail.

Not only did this new Hydrangea not bloom this summer, up until about 10 days ago, it looked ready for the graveyard. It really looked like it wouldn't make it. Now it's doing fine.

What a mixed up seasons we had. Even the flowers are confused.

Like the lily and mums. Very pretty.

I think my pain threshold is very high, but right now the "cast itch" is setting in. Not to mention all the things I have thouble doing.
Yesterday was a do nothing day, sat with my arm elevated and an icepack.
And the sun was out just to taunt me.

does Pink Penny bloom all season or is it a late bloomer ? Looks like a short one too.

Lady, I just bought it in August. It was in bloom then and has been ever since. It is a low growing rambler.

Here's an Iris that's now in bloom. It is a dwarf variety " Car Hop".

That's a nice Iris, I just looked it up in plant files. It's reported as a rebloomer, and having a sweet scent.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I have one scented iris... it's blue.. what a nice surprise it was when I realized it smells so great

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Do you have that Car Hop near the Salvia Black and Blue(which is def on my want list)? the colors go great together.

My iris that rebloomed has a very sweet scent too, very surprised because I don't remember the scent in the spring...weird. Smells kinda like vanilla licorice.

Jen, I just LOVE your photos. Such lovelies! I really like that yellow Iris. Maybe when they grow up, we can trade.
No, the Black & Blue Salvia is in my big beds. I'm hoping that it either comes back or reseeds. I think that it's only reliably hardy to zones 8 or 7. But many posters from colder zones have said it always returns for them. It's much warmer/sunnier where you are, so you should have a better chance than me for perennializing. I may buy some annually if not, I like it that much.

Your roses are so pretty. Right now, only my Knockouts are blooming. I used to seriously cut back the Honeysuckle shrub growing along my side bed. I really enjoyed the fall berries. It always produced more berries after a good pruning. Now it's living on the other side of that white fence. Fall berries are such a nice part of Autumn. I dug and gave away my large Pyrecantha this summer. It was just growing to big for it's spot even though I chopped it down to nothing last year. I will miss those brilliant orange berries.

You are so lucky to have rebloom on your Azaleas. None of my rebloomers bloomed this year. Is that one of those new Encore Azaleas? People have been posting mixed results on them. I bought 2 in spring 08 and they have never bloomed. Of course, I had to battle the voles away from them repeatedly.

So sorry, Jen. The seeds came from a swap. Mine did not bloom this year, still in tiny pots, so I have no clue what color they are. Seems that purple butterfly bush seeds are dominate.
I bought a mix from T& M several years ago and all were purple too.
