Searching for long-lost philodendron

I once had an upright philodendron with elongated, 6"-7" heart-shaped leaves. Totally green from leaf to stem, no veining, striping, nor red stems--just pleasant, medium green, semi-glossy leaves. It had arial roots like most philodendrons have. Cuttings stayed upright for a good while, but as they grew older, they needed a bit of support to latch onto. No problems propagating by stem cuttings; I gave them all away as gift plants.

The mother plant was stolen from my apartment 20 years ago, and I haven't found this exact plant since--in stores nor on the Web. It seems that the nurseries all sell the latest twist on upright heartleaf philodendron, but I just want my old plant back. Any ideas? Anyone with my specimen? I'll gladly trade cuttings. Please help. ( I'm a newbie ...)

have you tried looking on the aroid forum here at Daves? Philodendrons are in the aroid family - also, there are other websites for aroid lovers, and forums too....you might have more luck with your search if you go somewhere where they talk specifically about philodendrons - I googled philodendron forums and a few links came up.

Do you know if "heartleaf" was actually part of the name, or are you referring to it as heartleaf because of it's shape? Plain green leafed heartleaf philodendron is an easy plant to find. That's why I'm thinking you are trying to find something else. Hey! You're on a treasure hunt.....I hope you find what you are looking for!

wow plantlady! you have waaaaay more patience than me! of course maybe if I could figure out how to cut and paste!

mine is heart shaped...if it has no or very little sun it stays glossy green, if it gets sun it gets yellow splotches all over the place. it runs along the top of my kitchen cabinets and grows very well..but because the way the light hits it it looks like I have 3 diffent ones up there, dark green, bright green, and the yellow splotches...kinda neat

It was so long it would hit the ground and I'd have to cut it off at the bottom. The birds decided to make a nest in it last year and it died. I just couldn't destroy the nest when it had eggs in it. I should have taken cuttings but I have a smaller plant somewhere around here! ^_^

Smaller? I had moved 2 pots of it outside for the summer and one of my boys had to go under the deck and use a crow bar to open the gap so we could get it out! it's everywhere! I think them and the spiderplants are going to get together and kill me in my sleep...LOL

Nah ... I don't think they will kill you in your sleep. You might wake up one morning with a few aerial roots attached to you from a wayward plant, but hey ... it could be fun living in a jungle! ^_^

And no, heartleaf is not part of the name. Trinawitch, is yours a pothos? I have that, in marble queen.

Hello, everyone.

After googling and checking out the images that plantladylin posted here, I'm getting closer to my lost philodendron.

It looked alot like a philodendron eximium or a philodendron scandens--pardon me, I'm not that good at scientifics yet--and a little like the philodendron araceae Angra Dos Reis, but not exactly. I think it could be considered a "spade leaf" type.

If I post a picture here that I copied off my google search, would that be breaking a copyright law?

Anyway, thanks for all your help.
