The white one is almost there too.
I am so proud of them.
New Pic's of my Brugs
Charlene
Girl you should be proud, those Blooms are amazing, just Georgeous, I got 5 more dug up today, DH that doesn't like cats, got the girl a big bag of dry food today, I think she is winning him over, I will have to post another Pic of the night blooming Cerus, the bloom had just opened this morning, when I saw it I ran & got the camera, oh the university called they do want the Brugs that I have extra, I am taking them to them on Monday, but I will take Pic's so you can see the size of those huge plants, for some reason the look smaller in the ground, when you dig them up they look so much bigger
Elizabeth
Elizabeth, I am so proud for you. That will be more room in your basement.
Do you give them different colors every year? I know that they look forward
to getting that phone call from you. September is going to have him wrapped around her paw.
She is a sweetheart. I don't know how people can get furbabies and just throw them away.
I love the picture of that night blooming cereus. I've been packing and rearranging plants today, but nothing like yours.
I brought some of my Tender Bonsai ones in and I'm worried about the so-called "Hardy Ones"
Think I'll build them a frame and put sand in it to keep them from not freezing solid.
Heck, I'm ready for Spring, aren't you??:-)) Charleen
Charlene
they get different ones every year, he ask me if I minded if they share them with the other campus, I said they are yours to keep, sell, share, if some of these doubles do well over the winter they will get some of them next fall, it is a teaching Greenhouse, so I really feel good to be able to donate, plus it's good advertisment for me, when people want to know where they got them, I still sell plants as long as they are growing, I sold some houseplants last monday
yes I am ready for spring, I don't like the dessert theme that my yard has in winter, although I am doing a few things different, I have already cut back my 20 cannas, tommorrow I will dig the bulbs, one thing I learned last winter you don't put your canna bulbs in anything other than paper bags or a card board box, I put a bunch of them in a plastic bag, they all dried up, but the other ones were fine, live & learn
Elizabeth
I leave my cannas in the ground. Do you have trouble with a little worm in your cannas?
They spin a web to hold leaf together. I going to try the Bayer Tree and Shrub granduales
in the spring to see if that stops them. They are especially bad in the green ones. I also have some
striped leaves ones. They are pretty, have Orange blooms but the seds are no good that they make.
I want to have better gardens next year. I got a lot of work.
Charlene
if I left my cannas in the ground they would freeze, I got almost all of them dug up today, I will take 4 Frosty pink & 1 HHG
Brugs to the university Monday, the rest of my Brugs, I will dig up, all of them next week, it's really cold out tonight,I hope we have warmer temps tommorrow night
Elizabeth
You get closer everyday to getting them done. I am going to dig mine up
and move them , the cannas are where I want to put in some different flower; so they got to go
.
Charlene
I have just one more canna & 3 Elephant Ears, then I just have to get the rest of the Brugs dug up, trimmed, then to basement they go, I loaded up a bunch of houseplants, & gave them to my friend for helping get most of the cannas
dug up, it got real chilly last night, but lucky it didn't frost, sometimes I wish I could move south for the winter, it would be sooo nice to leave the Brugs in the ground, do you have a shovel, they call a sharp shooter? if you don't you, need to get one, it is a slim shovel but it longer than the other spades, anyway you can dig down about a foot with it, it's light weight, so it's easy to use, for cannas & Brugs
Elizabeth
No, but IO have a very nice narrow spade. I don't use shovels til I have too.
I wish you could see my brugs, they musy live the cool weather. I planted a yellow
Rose yesterday and I do think I may plant one of the brugs in that area too.
I think it will be one of the Frosty Pinks. They are getting leaves on them, they are not
rooted enough now to stay out,DO YOU THINK????i can always put them in my
garden tub. Already have a few plants in there. I don't have a basement or garage,
or greenhouse, but got a Garden tub.
Charlene
that would work, next spring, don't be surprized if they grow really fast, mine did, oh I will take Pic's of the Frosty pinks,
before they go to their new home, 1 Pic will be of them in the ground, 2 will be after they are dug up, you will wonder how I get them out of the ground, the neighbors chainlink fence is 4ft tall, the biggest FP towers over that fence
after those are gone, the rest of the Brugs will be easy, to dig trim & get them into the basement, as soon as I get them all in I will email you Pic's of the basement, I think you will like my set up, I have 4 grow lights down there, I don't even mind doing laundry, because all the plants are down there, oh I have 2 windows in my attic I use for houseplants, I have 2 plastic swimming pools, up there so I don't have to worry about watering the plants
Elizabeth
Sounds heavenly. I know you enjoy it, Elizabeth. All the
work you do, you need to enjoy it. I will love to see your pictures.
do they have to trim the brugs back after you dig them up?
I would hate to cut off those blooms. I know it has got to be
done.
Elizabeth, here is my white brug that I started out with and
didn'teven appreciate it til I found out what it is. It smells like
light citrus. A Man where my DH works gave it to him. So I
named it after him. My name cause it is a NOId, I call it
Mr. Lofton Hill.
Gosh, I hate getting behind on DG posts. It's taken me all morning to get caught up.The grandkids have had several practices and 2 games this week, so I haven't been on much.Elizabeth, I wanta see your basement greenhouse too...Pa....leease. Charleen , Mr. Lofton Hill is beautiful. Finally I have a bloom, ready to pop on one of the outer branches, of my NOID.And, Charleen, it is as yellow as yours, are on your NOID pink...you were right..In fact, I'm wondering if we might have the same noid brug...lol Well, gotta go dig more cannas. Charleen make sure you save room for some tropicals. It shouldn't be long, now.
Dee
O.k. I'll make room,Dee. You girls gonna have me buried in
plants and I love it. I got another pic of the pink one. She is so tall.
Dee, you want a piece of Mr. Hill, be glad too. He is small compared to the pink one.
Ours could be kin, I love them, don't you?? Hey, Read on anorther link there is a
Purple Brug. You all heard of it?? Elizabeth, have you seen one? Us Greenhornes
want to know. Isn't it amazing how they come out with yellow and turn pink. I still can't get over it.
We have missed you dee, we will look at Elizabeth's greenhouse together. Won't that be
fun??
Charleen
Charlene
it's georgeous, I like the name noid or not it's a beauty, I will send out some special plants, monday, I had to go pay bills today & tommorrow I hopefully get my new windows in my kitchen, oh I will write a little note on how to take care of them
I have to pick up the right size box from the P.O. oh they are free BTW, usually this time of year I order them, but I have been busy
Elizabeth
Dee
it's good to see you, I know how it is with the GK's my 16yr old GD has been on the radio twice this week she won some cd;s & a $25.00 gift certificate to Ihop, she is getting to be very lucky, she is such a good girl, she decided about 10 yrs ago it wasn't lady like to wear pants, her & her sister chose to wear skirts & dress modest, I am so proud of them, they are home schooled & do really well on their test, I did something right with their mother
I can't wait to see your Brug Blooms
Elizabeth
Elizabeth, tell your GD congrats on the CD's and $$.I bet you are proud them. My youngest daughter and her family(hubby and 11 year old girl, 9yr.old boy and 6 year old boy), live about 8 miles away. Since both parents work, we go over and stay from after school til dad gets home, and if soccer practice or games are before mom and dad get home, we take them, which we volunteered to do before they even signed up, because we wanted them to be able to play.
I can't wait for those blooms to open too.I have staked the plant, because we have been having some very windy days. I'll post a pic, as soon as the first one opens.
The cuttings that you sent are leafing out happily under the grow lights.I'm wondering how fast they are gonna grow for me...lol...They will so much fun to watch this winter. When do you start fertilizing cuttings?
Charleen, thanks so much for the offer, but I have a couple different white ones started under the lights, right now.If they don't make it, I might just be bummin' one of your white cutting, come next summer....Dee
Dee
Dee
you are such a good mommy & grandma for doing that, taking them practice, don't start fertilizing, until next spring, when
you put them in the ground don't be surprized when they grow to 7ft, they grow really fast, the huge Frosty pink I am giving the university was a very small cutting last summer now it's over 8 ft, I am just soo glad it found a good home
Elizabeth
Charlene
any more Blooms, I love to see your Blooming Brugs
Elizabeth
Oh, Elizabeth, I went to a nursery here in Ga. Pam's Plants and she is thinking of selling plants on internet soon as she gets thing set up. She gave me a slip of a Brug called Peach Parfait aka maya it has Varigated leaves. she was selling named plants for $5.oo I couldn't believe. Such a nice lady. Got a couple Bromalaids, Bishops cap. Purple Salvia and a red plant for Hummingbirds, have to go see if she had label. some water plants. You know I am going back. She had a brug, I think I am going back to get it was almost a Pumkin color. Beautiful. Had to watch my spending, but sure left happy. Here you go, my baby is still doing her thing. Do you think the Frosty Pink would be hardy enough to plant one in the ground to see if it will make it through the winter?????I just started a new flower bed with canna as background. My neighbors can sit in their yard and look Right into my yard. so I am going to put up a friendly fence for them to look at.
Oh, my Goodness, it is beautiful. I am going to love it. i sure wish you could have been with me today, Dee too. You would have love the nursery I was telling you about. We could even afford them with our income. When she gets her internet set up I will let you know. It was like the tropics to me.
Eliabeth, that frosty pink is to die for..I can hardly wait til next year.Your pink one sure looks happy, Charleen! I wanta go with you to that nursery!
My noid pink seems like it is taking forever to show her true colors...seems that the biggest bloom has been yellow forever..lol...Is it me , or do they really slow down, when it gets this cool out?maybe tomorrow..lol..It will be a "stop the press" moment, when I can finally post a pic of her.haha
Dee
Charlene
I wouldn't risk it, it being in the ground, a really nice guy, lives in Florida, he lost some of his, this past Feburary, they had a really bad frost there, I would think in your zone, I would have to cut them back & mulch them really heavy, just to see if they would make it, I know they won't here even with mulch, I wish I could have been with you too, I love going to the nursery, even if I don't buy anything, oh your baby looks really good, keep those Pic's coming, next year you will amaze me with your babies, oh I am now a member for a whole year
Elizabeth
It does seem like it takes longer for them to blossom on out. but, Dee, the wait really makes you love the bloom that much more. Next time I go to te nursery I'll get my husband's little cam corder and take pictures. Girls it was beautiful and very inexpensive. You would have loved it. I bet I'll see it when I go to sleep. she had a Ponytail plant that was over 10 feet tall and she told me she had to have it pruned, because it was taller. got this Bromalaid for $5.00 i can't believe it. Some things just $3.00
Charlene
That Bloom is just Georgeous, go back to the nursery & get that Brug, or you will see it in your sleep for a week, I like your Bromalaid also, I hope it isn't getting very cold for you, it's down right chilly, Dee is it chilly where you are, I am going to dig my Brugs Monday Bloom or no Bloom, I have a feeling Frost is going to sneak up on us
Elizabeth
Yes, it sure is chilly. It's 50 right now. We went to a couple of the kids soccer games this AM, and I about froze my butt off. The first one started at 10:15 .A sweatshirt just wasn't enough.I'm gonna take real long cuttings of my NOID and stick in the basement, in a bucket of water over the winter.Oh yeah, congrats on finding your orange brug!
Dee
Oh, I love it! I think that is one that I'm in the process of trading for...now, where's that list??..
Elizabeth, I think you and I should move down south with Charleen for the winter. Course we would have to rent a big u-haul for the plants, cuttings, etc..then I bet the three of us together could build a greenhouse, after we get there....well, maybe not...I think our basements will work just fine...lol
Dee
Gordon, don't you also have Maya? If so, have you noticed any differences between it and Peach Parfait?
Veronica...I was told... perhaps by you that Peach Parfait was a renamed Maya... I don't now have Maya...I perhaps did at one point..but not lately enough to remember what it looked like.. I do know that if it was a Maya... there's little need to have another ..this is such a great plant at every aspect... keeps all of it's lovely leaves...and flowers wonderfully... once it starts..
guess someone will have to try and cross it with a Maya..
Miss Pam had aka Maya on the label too. Do you think they have already crossed it? Hers was not a tall plant yet. I know I'm going back over there today and get that pumpkin colored one. It was so pretty. It is about the same size as mine only bigger and bushier. It was so pretty and I can't remember the name.
Thank you Gordonhawk, My cutting leaves look wrinkled, I hope it makes it. I got it in soil in a little pot here in the house. I don't have a greenhouse. It sure would be fun or us to go plant shopping. It would be even better with friends.
Charleen, did you dream about the pumpkin colored brug?lol It sounds beautiful.Let us know who it is after you get it...
Dee
I will, I think I'm going back over there this afternoon. I will take pictures.
How about that?
Pictures....YUMMY...love 'em!
Dee
Gordon
Your plant looks a lot like my Peaches & Creme, oh I have to post a Pic of Maya, next to P&C, P&C has sooo many Buds on it I hate to dig them up when they are in full bud, but I might not have a choice, BTW your plant is Georgeous
you have done well with it, I would love to visit your roof top
Elizabeth
Charlene
did you get that Brug, I sure hope you did, I have been outside, I dug up one of my Elephant Ears, now I only have 1 canna & 3 Elephant Ears, then I only have the Brugs, you would have laughed at me I dug one of the Frosty Pink out
that goes to the university tommorrow, well any way I was wrestling it out, but I got it out it's over 6ft tall, I found a good way to transport them, the mulch bags, I save them, then I put the root in those to transport them, they don't seem to dry out as bad as if you put them in a pot, you water the rootball, anyway they do really well that way
Elizabeth
Dee
we do need to move in with Charlene for the winter, but you're right about the Huge U haul, I bet it would take us all day & night to get it loaded, then we would need one of those Huge moving trucks, to move our beds, then we could build a Greenhouse that we could sleep in
Elizabeth
Elizabeth... great idea... it's always beeen a design project... a live in greenhouse... with an inside /outside pool... I've done bits and pices of building it. here and for clients..... pretty soon I'm going to do a full one for me...
Gordon
All right you al when we going to build this live in greenhouse with pool?? Let's go My friends.
Yes, Elizabeth and Dee I got the Brug. Of coarse it had no name but If it is Beautiful, do we care
NOT> We will share. I love to share,I got a morning glory tree, Mexican sage with the most gorgeous
purple blooms, Vanilla bean plant, Chartruse Pineapple Salvia, Zebra Bromalaid, Small leaf Princess-has purple bloom.
Some kind of slip of a plant that looks like a Coleas but isn't, she calls it Magella . She has fair prices on her pllants, I couldn't
believe it. I'm going to give her DG group address so she can sell to every one. Here is a picture of the pumpkin Brug.
