Yes, I want to be a part of the Aroid family so badly, but Botanists keep telling me that humans just don't fit! You know, Philodendrons, Alocasias, Anthuriums, DAN! just doesn't jingle well!
Gothqueen... I would love to see your photo, it is now my desktop wallpaper at work!
Thanks everyone and start planing to attend next year's show! Heck, if anything you can print out a coupon from Fairchild's site for $5 off admission and get to visit a beautiful place!
VIII Annual Aroid Show and Sale at Fairchild
I so wish....but I'd have to save ALOT of money and a really really big truck and trailer...LOL
I used to fly down from WI, so it is doable. One year I stuffed so many plants into a garment bag that I couldn't carry it!
That was before 9/11 and heightened security, though.
LariAnn,
If one were there (Indonesia/SE Asia) and able to get the pollen
would it last long enough to be sent by as-close-to overnight courier (DHL)
as exists?
It could be packed near hermetically. Maybe it could happen.
I should never gone to Plant Files and looked up Araceae.....just too many
ha ha ha. I have 3 dream plants but I need a huge greenhouse for them. I would love to grow a full sized Amorphophallus Titanum, I would love to grow the Alocasia Robusta, and the Rafflesia Flower. Some day!
I have 33 acres in missouri I figure I'm gonna have to build a 30 acre plant house for everthing I want (I robably need a 5 acre one now for what I have) LOL
Are you sure it's the 8th annual show? seems like it's been around longer than that.
I hate waiting for stuff in the mail, especially when I'm expecting plants!....it's gonna be a long week while I wait
I got a poster that said VIII so I just assumed it meant 8 ha ha ha. I don't have a habit of exercising my roman numerals but maybe it was just the 8th one at Fairchild? But maybe it said XIII? I can't remember whatever!

The poster I got has 32nd on it, as I know there have been IAS shows since the early 1980s at least, so that sounds right.
Ok I feel stupid... the poster I got says VIII annual but I failed to read the rest. The poster says VIII Annual International Aroid Confrence 1999! ha ha ha. I can't believe I titled this thread as VIII annual aroid show ha ha ha. Oh well, I assume everyone knows what I meant.
I was just wondering, because I think I attended my first show in 2000 or 2001, and it seemed to be too well run to be the first show!
If you ever get a chance to attend an Aroid Conference, they are highly recommended! I was in St. Louis for the 1999 conference and it was a blast! A lot of fun.
That is the one this poster is from. They had a stack of them for free and they looked cool but I just assumed they were for this show. Oh well.
Hi, Dan. Good luck with the plants you got at the show and sale. I could not make it this year. I have all of those that you've posted, including a p.goeldii the size of the one Lariann gave a link to. It's such a joy to watch them grow!
Marianne
I can't wait until mine gets that big!
Rachel, that is not A. clarinervium, but could be A. crystallinum. The A. regale is distinctly different. Bubba1, the plant is not a vine, and the leaves can get to be about 8" across and and somewhat longer over time.

LariAnn, I love that borneo Giant of your link! Is this one of yours? Do you have shop or nursery or something like that? I read somewhere here to take a look at your plants but where do I find those?
Do you thing such a plant would make it here? In the summer outside en in the winter in my heated greenhouse? I first must take a look at google if they can be bought here in Europe!
Jori
How much should goeldii cost? That is so, so cool. And does anyone have a zz leaf?
I think I paid $20 for mine at the show in a 6" pot. I don't know what the going rate is on them but that is what I paid for my Goeldii.
I didn't find them anyway. Was that one of LariAnn's plants? I can't buy anything else this year, maybe I can try again in the spring.
I went to the show and had a great time! The show was great bought lots of stuff and had a hard time getting it home, I'm sure the valets loved bringing my stuff up to the room, One got a nice poke from my large Anchomanes thorns. I gave them a good tip though! Miami is awesome also by the way!!!! Had a blast!
Cannonball tree!
I think those hotels are used to plant nuts, I visited a friend in her room (after she had purchased her Spritus- Sancti!) and every square inch had a plant on it. It looked like a botanical garden...
