Fairly new to keeping plants alive, not at killing them! p3

Germantown, MD

Can you stand anymore????

When this was at the funeral home and on trip back to town it had 2 white flowers standing up straight out of the middle. This plant is doing great, with lots of new growth unraveling itself all the time, however no new flowers. Someone said it was a peace lily? As stated in p1 I am new to this stuff, so if you told me it was a cactus i might believe ya. Anyway I would like to know if anything can make the flowers come back. It is approaching a year in my care (my family thinks i go and replace the plants every week to make them think they have survived that long) with no signs of flowers. This also does well in the hall with no direct windows aimed at it. Kids leave the hall light on all the time, and talk on the phone constantly so maybe this little plant thinks the kids are talking to it? That is another thing about all of my plants....I talk to them alot. Since i have no job, the kids are in school, husband is at work it gets lonely. Yes I am kidding about the lonely, but thought it was funny.

Thank you all for any advice (in advance!)

Yes, your plant is definitely a Spathiphyllum, commnly called "Peace Lily": http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/57837/ They do real well in low light situations. Have you fertilized your plant since you've had it? A good 20-20-20 house plant fertilizer will work, or you could try feeding it with a diluted solution of bloom booster type plant food (one with a high middle number such as 15-30-15) to encourage blooms.

I have the same plant and it is indeed a peace lily.

I have not fertilized any of my plants, thought that was for outdoor plants. I will attend to this need today. thanks

Indoor plants, especially, need to have their feeding attended to. Think animals in a zoo. They can't get food on their own, so, we need to do it for them.

I understand the no job kids at school thing.....only worry about talking to your plants when you start arguing with them and then you make the voice like they are arguing or talking back to you...cause people walking by look at you funny!

HAHAHA Trina! It's the dogs that argue with me, and I with them...Plants are very sweet to me, I think they know I am really trying.

yes I argue with my dog too and she argues back...it gets real quiet during the day but at 3:30 the house explodes every day...sometimes I wonder what I am going to do when they all move out.

This is a picture of a passionflower I am growing in the house because they won't survive our zone 5 winters
