2009 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds Vol. 9

Marlton, NJ

Congratulations GP! Nice shots!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Yes, congratulations GP, your photo are really good!

Great one too, Elphaba.

Norman, OK

I still have a few around as well, but haven't seen a male in a couple of weeks. The pair of Black-chins that spent the summer in the yard are gone. The Monarchs are really migrating through today and a lot of them make brief visits to my Butterfly Bushes.

I have a real drought of birds around the house right now. The winter migrants should be here soon. Saw a little stranger on one of the ponds yesterday and had to get out my Sibley's to identify-- a juvenile Eared Grebe.

Leaving for the OKC Zoo in a few minutes. Should be a fun evening. They are having a closed event for OK Zoological Society members. I'll take a camera.

Melbourne, FL

Thanks, everyone. I had never seen a male Ruby-Throat before and at first thought I had a new species in my backyard.

So cool that you got your first male!!

I had one quick visitor today...didn't even get a pic.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Congrats to you southern gals that are seeing the Hummers! And GP congrats on seeing your first mature male...lovely shots!

We still have a handful throughout the day so I can't complain. This is one from yesterday when I was visiting the brush pile.

Nice Rose! I had one visiting one of the last blooms on that Missouri primrose too! Didn't get a pix though, as I was on the other side of the fence.

Norman, OK

I haven't taken any pics recently, but here is a couple of this year's babies taken a couple of weeks ago.

Beautiful shots Rose and Red!!

I have one here today but no pics, we're about to be rained on.

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Wow Rose! Those are wonderful shots. I like the first one the best. What kind of flower is that?

Reddirtretiree, I can't believe how well your hummers get along! I watched one attack another one, grab his tail and not let go as they went up and down. Today, I had one visit that had no tail feathers at all.

Norman, OK

Pics can be deceiving. My Ruby-throats don't get along any better than any others. They are always fighting and chasing each other.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

I had this one late this afternoon. It had some kind of light feathering on the head.

Burd...I would love to find some Hummer nests...nice shots of them.

After the leaves are off it is so amazing where one finds nests of all kinds. I love looking for them all winter!

Great photos of the hummers and flowers everyone!!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

At first light this morning there are 4 or 5 Hummers in the back yard. It is down in the 40's at night so they must be hungry as they seem very active.

This one is from yesterday morning as he rested in the Poke Berry bush.

This one was still here yesterday. I still see different ones throughout the day but the numbers have started going down. Most that I see now seem to be more skitterish.
