think it is time to move out this atlantic pumpkin - pretty big with a weird shape - strange pumpkin, the vine starts other pumpkins and then they stop growing and root?

Nice pumpkin! How much do you think it weighs? 30? 50? pounds.
I used to get so excited to see how much mine would weigh in at....best one was 120lbs.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

maybe 30 i have not picked it up yet - this is one of those 1000 pd varities - i just let it go - next year i will cut off most of the vine growth so it focuses its energy on the pumpkin!

120 pd'r is big!! jealous

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

The funny thing was, I weighed exactly the same :)

Thomaston, CT

Gee, Bill---don't know any animal that touches leeks----a disgruntled MIL?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

Well could have been although this time it was me :) used it with sumer squash last night which are still going here.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

That a BIG punkin pixie. Your toms are still looking good wha. When do you have normally have to harvest them all to save them from Jack?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i've been bringing in anything close to changing color - jack can show at any time.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

nice pumpkin Bill..hope mine change color

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

ok you punkin growers you're mission (should you decide to accept it) is to beat this guy. WOWSER!
2002: The world's largest pumpkin was measured during the pumpkin weigh-off at Topsfield Fair, Massachusetts. The 606.7 kg (1,337 pounds) pumpkin was grown by Charles Houghton.

Did you see this one?....

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

a friend of mine has a friend who enters that contest every year - they use so much fertilizer that their yards are designated as chemical waste dumps

Thomaston, CT

I thought you could grow huge pumpkins by feeding them milk---much better than chemicals!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Yes, we have a farmer here who did that.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

evidently not if you want to be a winner at the Topsfield Fair

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

According to google guy... "soybean milk enriches vegetable nutrition; beer polishes vegetables and prevents them from cold; vinegar may kill bacteria and cow's milk helps plants absorb nutrition" I guess chumming the veggie patch is the way to go.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

He injects cow milk(with a 3cc needle) into the vine just above the stem of the pumpkin.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

:O :O Is that legal? Doesn't the punkin have to take a pee test?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Nope, it all organic. ^_^ no chemicals.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

That's true. Geesh I wonder if the olympians know about that!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

LOL!! I'll have to remember that "chumming" technique next spring! That was funny, Dahlia! Pretty good info though!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Maybe the athletes will inject milk now?

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

You know I wouldn't be surprised if somebody tried it. OT but I luv our olympic mittens. I'm getting me 2 pairs. Red is my favorite ^_^ http://www.vancouver2010.com/en/about-vanoc/own-the-podium/red-mittens/-/95928/1y6l580/index.html

Those look really nice, Dahlia!! Good luck to your athletes!

Pixie - thanks for those instructions. I might try that! But I hate shot needles!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

good info... thanks.. I will try that next year

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

dnut does beer still work if it goes through the processor and comes out the other end?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

my wife has weened me from whole milk all the way to 1% - not sure if she will buy the pumpkin excuse although it will be worth the try :)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

We drink skim. Whole milk tastes like heavy cream to me now!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

can't do skim - wife does though - had some whole the other day that was left over from making the moussaka - good!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

We drink skim too.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I don't drink milk. Blehck! Cooking with it and disguised as cheese is ok though.

Thomaston, CT

Best milk I ever tasted is MacNamara's Dairy chocolate----have to be in NH to get it, though---tastes just like a chocolate shake---and I've met some of the cows who produce it!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

LOL Robin!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

What do you drink with your Oreo's then?
