Pelle hope that Hawk's sore is not something to serious. It doesn't look good, he seem to have a lump on the neck as well.
Burd-Fotos, such a nice assortment of birds.
Gp, I also like that shot, of the Cardinal with the palm seed. Seed is so big for his beak, you wonder sometimes, how they can manage that.
Nanny, those are good pictures, to show that birds still forage for seeds on plants, even if we have feeders up. I have hollyhocks, that finches loves to pick the seeds off.
Those little sneaking warblers, do that to me all the time.
WaterCan, nice beach and gull.
Black-capped Chickadee.
Nice pics guys!
Burn, I hope he is going to be okay. I was wondering if he was the injured adult I lost track of several weeks ago.
Beautiful shots on this thread everyone! We have been so overcast for several days and when the sun does pop out I am usually camera-less! Nice to be able to come here and see what is going on elsewhere.
Burn...that is such an impressive amount of Starlings!! Good grief...I wondered why I haven't seen any around for awhile!! Thanks for the new thread.
Nice pic evie! My Downy are friendly too but not the Hairy (their nervous).
Lily, Very pretty pic of the Cardinal1
Hi everyone! Awesome shots!
Threegardeners, I'm pretty sure the goldfinches are not so much migrating as moving into your area after breeding season ends. They have to be in their nesting grounds to breed so that they can give their babies the preferred immature seeds (dandelion, I think). Then when the kids grow up they high-tail it to the back yards for feeders, sunflowers, etc.
Welcome leha to the friendliest and most informative birding forum on the net. I loved the quail on the previous thread.
Burd and nanny, you guys have been BUSY! great photos.
Hack
Very nicely done Burd and Nanny. You know, I've seen the Goldfinches here, even their youngs begging to be fed. But that was a week ago. I haven't seen them the last week or so.
Welcome to the bird forum Leha, I also like the Quails on the previous thread, they look like the ancient Egyptian, with those head crest. :-)
Pelle, I do remember, you mentioning something about the Hawk, a while back. It could very well be him.
3gardeners, The Goldfinch did disappear for while here too, but came back with their young ones, about a month ago. I see them here till January, Then they leaves, and come back in April.
Well Rose, I can give, the Starlings your address, if you want. That's if, there's still $$$$ left for feed, after feeding all those hummers, this summer? :))
Great close up of the Hairy Wp, Evie.
Lily, your Cardinal is a cutie.
American Kestrel
Nice shot of a Kestrel Burn! I have not seen one of those since the 1970's, back then we called them Sparrow Hawks.
Down at Cape May yesterday 46 Bald Eagles were seen. That breaks their record for a Daily Count on BE's!
I saw a Kestrel the other day but the Mockingbirds chased him away. The numbers of Kestrels have declined in our area.
Burn...thanks for your offer regarding the Starlings...but I will have to pass! I will take a few Redpolls though when they show in your area.
That is wonderful news about the Bald Eagles Pelle...it is amazing what can be done when efforts are made!
Here is a juvenile Indigo Bunting that landed briefly in the yard yesterday. I had thought they had left but discovered that they are feeding on a patch of ground that DH planted just for the birds!
Rose, what did DH plant? And what was that warbler so interested in that he was so close?
Wowee Burn, what a bunch of Starlings. You're most welcome to them.
Great Gull pix Watercan.
Gorgeous shots, as always, Rose. The Goldfinch shot with the feather on her head really did have me LOL.
Nice Red-tailed Hawk, Burd.
Welcome leha. Your quail on the last thread were lovely.
Pelle, were you back at Cape May yesterday?
GP, since I've been watching all the wonderful northern hemisphere birds, I kinda always picture the Cardinals up where Burn, or Rose or Pelle or Mrs Ed live - like when it gets that white stuff - hmmm, oh yes, snow. It looks strange (to me) to see a Cardinal in a palm, although it's obviously commonplace where you are.
No pix from me. We're having the wettest September since 1915!!
Thanks Margaret...that little Finch made me laugh too!
Mrs.Ed...I have no idea what DH planted. It was an area that was cleared due to the ice storm a few years ago and DH had the seed guy mix up a bunch of stuff for the birds. We were mainly interested in attracting the Bob-whites and that has worked since now they come to the yard. It is about a 2 acre area next to a giant brush pile and a hidden stream that runs year-round. The plant that the Indigos like look very much like fox-tails. I had some come up right outside my window and noticed an Indigo on it the other day. I will check with the seed guy and see if he remembers what we planted. The Yellow Warbler was in the front yard and I would guess they are just after the bugs. I know...too much info!!
Thanks Nanny...cool Hawk! Your other bird looks familiar but can't figure out what it is!
Here's an Eastern Kingbird in the treetop from the other day...haven't seen as many as last year.

Nice collection Nanny,
Thanks Rose, I was just wondering if it was more grasses or wildflowers or…
Yes, Margaret....the Cardinals are one of the birds that remain here all year round. They do look beautiful with snow as a backdrop, but it's unlikely to happen here.
ha! yes, the tell tale juice. When I was out the other day I saw a waxwing waaaaayyy up in a tree above some pokeweed. I was sure I had probably just interrupted it!
LOL, she is a sloppy eater! Great pics nanny and Rose!
Hi Margaret, I wish I had been in Cape May yesterday, aside from the Eagles they had dozens of American Kestrels, Sharp-shinned Hawks, Northern Harriers and many others.
Here is the report page from there with some photos.

you need to just MOVE There!
Oh believe me I would love to move closer to that area! Two hour's is too long of a drive.
Looks like Cape May is the place to be this time of the year.
The Tufted Titmice are back daily...I just love them. I took this feeder and gave it a good scrubbing and returned it with sunflower chips and chopped peanuts. Can't wait 'til the bird returns and finds the new treasure!!
Ah...what a sweet Dee!!
Nice one Rose! I just cleaned my feeders the other day too. I had gotten behind on them and with all the rain we had they were really gross. :-(
Ewwww...I need to do that to really bad. Mine are yucky!
I put out clean feeders yesterday and it rained last night. Figures. Not too unhappy - we really needed the rain (so much rain in July, then nothing in August/Sept..grrr)
And what a perfect picture for that Caroline Chickadee!
So was that Titmouse, picture perfecttttttt! Ah I'm so jealous.
