These aren't famous birds, but they certainly are impressive, when they gather together, outside our yard. ;)
European Starlings
Daily pics #244
Great start Burn!! I bet that many Starlings is pretty noisy! Cute Sapsucker and that Kingfisher is great. I just read an article that said the Kingfisher builds tunnels 3-7 ft. into muddy banks to raise their young.
That's interesting, I never knew that. Thanks for the info on it.
Terrific beginning with those soooo many Starlings! Thank you, Burn. The Kingfisher -- is one I've been hunting for a photograph and had not success with it yet. I loved the Black Phoebe on last thread Duc. And thank you Duc for sharing some info. on the Bald Eagle with me.
I've been away from home on a vacation, I've missed my Redheaded WPs. I've seen the Juvenile earlier. Here comes one of the Parents sitting on the tree top calling its youngs to come to feed. (The grains feeder is just below this part of the garden).
Nice shots, burn. Actually, I'm glad to see that you have all of the Starlings. Nice Red-tailed Hawk, pelle.
Actually last week, I watched Season Three of Marty Stouffers Wild America (on DVD). I previously bought all 12 Seasons - 120 episodes that were seen on PBS. The episode entitled "Photographing Wildlife" included a Belted Kingfisher mother and several young in a nest burrowed in the bank. It shows Marty Stouffer reaching into the nest but he could not tell how many young were in the nest. He then shoveled an opening in the back covered by a tarp. He was able to photograph the family from that vantage point and actually held some of the young and fed them small fish. I tried to find this segment on the internet (like YouTube) but couldn't find it. The complete set of 24 DVD's costs about $50.00 but it gives you 60 hours of original footage.
That's not a bad price at all. I've watched a lot of his shows; their very enjoyable.
Pretty waterfowls watercan2!
Hmm, good vision GP! I was wondering if some of its prey has put up a battle or something? I just saw a Red Shouldered Hawk, some Blue birds and the sun set a wee bit early here, it would be impossible for a good pix. Phoey!!!
Cute Blue Jay, GP. I especially like the male Cardinal on the Palm's seeds.
Great shots everyone!
Hi GP, Yes I did notice that thing on his neck. He was pretty far away and only appeared for a few seconds so maybe next time I'll get a closer look. Nice Cardinal pics!
Adel, Wonderful shots of the Heron, Egret etc.!
Burd, Nice selection; I like the Red-railed Hawk taking off.
