Thanks, Hack. My book shows the White-winged Doves in the Southwest (Texas-New Mexico), Gulf Coast states in winter, and Florida(all year). I think they are spreading, though.

This sinister-looking fellow flew into a roadside tree at dusk.

Oh, please allow me to express my fascination with that last post. Rockminer, is that a Bald Eagle? That speaks volumn of my lack of knowledge, or the transparency of my newness as birding. That's awesome!!!

Wow he is sinister looking in that shot rockminer!

Pelle, please help me out. Is that an Eagle? Or is that an Osprey please?

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

that's a bald eagle.

Thank you Marna, you know how the saying goes "If you aren't 100% sure, goes with your 1st instinct". LOL. Awesome, awesome Bird, thanks again Rockminer. Just so happen; this morning I and my husband witness a big bird. A white-body darkwings bird out on the open water catching a fish. Could it be one of them magnificient birds? I know Herons catch their fish with their beaks, but this one bird this morning caught the fish by zooping down and caught the prey with its talons (spelling?).

It's over cast outside, I've this little-big baby pix to share. One of the fledglings Redheaded Woodpeckers which came close to the grains feeder just a little while ago. It came close then spotted me and flew off. Only to return to the tree tops and called its parents -- so it appeared to me. :-)

Lily, that Bald Eagle is probably an adult. I'm told their head and tail gets pure white at 5 years old. We have several here year round and it's fun to see the youngsters playing with the parents as they fly. I'm guessing what you saw was an Osprey. They also swoop down to catch fish and they have the white body.
Great job on the baby Red-headed!

This Black Phoebe looked pretty in the tree, but wasn't close enough to me.

Rockminer, I forgot to say that was a beautiful shot of your Bald Eagle!

My Goldfinches were back for the seeds before the sun came up again.

I knew something was wrong when all my little birds quickly disappeared. Sure enough this hawk was lurking in a nearby tree. I think it's an immature Cooper's or Sharp-shinned Hawk.

Hi Duc, Great shots! That is a Coopers Hawk (rounded tail).

Cute juvenile Lily!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Thanks Pelle, I forgot about the tail!
