I wonder if this young one will be mature enough for migration.

and older ones
I have always thought of lotus as being a nuisance. It stops up all the channels in late summer. Of course the gallinules walk on and flip the pads to find food. I only see gallinules were there are lotus pads. I never knew they also eat the seed heads. Here is a juvenile tearing apart one of the seed heads.
f_chisolm that is an awesome assortment of photos I enjoyed perusing them.

One of these days I am headiing your way Frank....love your herons! I spotted a little heron on the way to the post office yesteday....no camera with me! Maybe I will go down to the lake in a bit.
Waiting for the fog to burn off again this morning. So from yesterday while I was looking for warblers....a Gray Catbird trying to hide.
Frank, what a fabulous series. I was trying to imagine what it must be like to see a flock of Great Egrets. I can understand your fascination with the Gallinules. I love the shots of the Yellow-crowned Heron.

Nanny, Your so lucky to have a good "Warbler" area!

Wonderful photos, everyone! A pleasure to see.
Beautiful shots on this thread and thanks for starting it Margaret... it is always a pleasure to view the Osprey!
I am sure there is lots going on in our area but have been taking advantage of the soft ground and cool days to work in the yard. While outside I have enjoyed the American Goldfinches on the Sunflowers...they sure enjoy them!
What an adorable shot that last one is Rose!
Thanks Knip...those Goldfinches really steal my heart, they are so sweet!
Great shots Rose; they are so cute! Haven't had too many around here.
Love the pretty ducks knip!
Handsome Catbird nanny!
Great shots rose, I have some Goldfinches, but haven't seen any julies, yet.
nanny, I have catbirds, too, I see them ofter eating at my peanut delight suet feeder.
Pretty ducks, kniph, I went to an area lake a few days ago and got snaps of Canada Geese, Mallards and a Great Egret. The male mallards don't have their full colors yet, just a tad of green as a crown.. From what Resin said, I'm going back and get pics as they change into their pretty plumage colors. They ought to be decked out by mid October.

Knip, what beautiful lighting in your duck photo. I see the one with the extravagantly coiffed head is there.
Here's a Pink-eared Duck from down the swamp a couple of days ago.
