I bought a Yellow Mexican BOP two months ago; a 5-gal. pot. I'm in El Cajon, CA. Planted it in a sunny, SW-facing location. Have watered it in keeping w/ advice that I've read from owners of the plant in numerous forums. So far the plant has only grown small shoots up and down the length of it's limbs. Is this the normal growth rate after transplanting or are there additional things that I should be doing? Planted a Mexican (all yellow) BOP at the same time and it has grown a foot. Am I being too impatient/paranoid?

Grow rate for Yellow Bird of Paradise Caesalpinia gilliesii
I wouldn't worry about it, a lot of times shrubs will take a while to get their roots going before they get going on the top growth. Mine didn't do much its first year in the ground either and I planted it in the fall so it had the winter to get established and it still didn't do a ton of growing the following year. So just be patient with it and it'll come along eventually!
