Sure thing. It is a Walking Iris. Ther e is the yellow and I have abotu 50 pot s of the bue variety of it.
Once it gets done makign the flower, the flower will die and it wil make another small fan and the weight of that fan cause s the stem to bend over and the plant wil root where it touches.
Cottage Garden Seed Swap and Chat #39
Hey those are cute.
is there gonna be a list put up of who is in the piggy swap?
Speaking of peculiar iris, I just got some seeds of an iris that grows in the water. I didn't see the flower, but my mother says she thinks it looks like a siberian and is yellow. The leaves look like a siberian. I found pseudacorus in plantfiles and think it might be that. Does anyone know about these?
Sounds like I.pseudacorus to me too. I've grown the regular, and now I only grow the variegated, as I found the green leaved form too aggressive. That would be my only word of caution- they can be invasive in some areas, especially if there are wetlands or waterways nearby.
I would see if you cna get it identified for sure as pseudacourus . They are invasive, so if you have any other plants in an are a with them they wil take over and croak them out in a pond or waterway. They a very agressive Iris even though they beautiful.
If you can keep them in a small like man built pond by themselves it not bad and dead head the seed pods.
Some day I might tell the story of me and my I just had to have these Irises. heheheheheh Oh man will nevr do that again.
Imzadi.. The list of folks will go up when the rules and swap thread and swap list go up. You be in. : )
I am thinking of starting November 1 and havign it run to right before Christas again, so folks can get all their stuff in before the holiday and I cna get out right afterwards. We have more folks and had folks that headed out of town for Christmas holidays and hoepfulyl this wil giv e evrybody tiem to get stuff in, so I have them coupel of weeks to get stuff organzied and shippe d back out.
One thing too in case I forget somebody remind for the chat/thread thread that might be good idea for folsk if they have big lists and such to put it up in stages. So that folks aren't flooded with oodle s of dmails right off the bat for confirmations and then the newbie s get lost.
be good if w e move a little slower the first coupel of days to giv e newbies a feel for what to do , so they don't get frustrated and over wlemed, cuz I know ther gonna be a madhous e of piggies pushing an dshoving and oinking like ther e no tommorrow hahahah.
Oh, and don't knwo who asked last year, but if they think about it or somebody els e and remmeber to see if we cna get mor e edits for the swap seed lists too, would be good.
regula r piggies, is ther e somethign else, ya think we might need to change or amend f rom last year to help make thinsg smoother?
Bread and Butter Gemini : )
I think it went perfectly! Haven't participated in better, that's for sure. Don't know about on your end though. I know I'm labeling things better this year, getting started now before the oinking starts is a big help!
Anybody grow hadry Hibiscus? I wonderign if I cna sow soem see d now and over winter in unheated gh and just let the root s grow for witner. Think they might make it so they woudl bloom for next year. Foudn soem seed I forgot I had whiel cleaning out seed boxes for swap.
Also I bought on Market place some Calliandra Red fairy Duster seeds. Foudn them and have no ide a what I did with sowign instructiosn that came with them and haven't found how to start them. Anybody got any idea?
Ella, I wintersowed hardy hibiscus and had some bloom the 2nd year. They waited till it got good and warm to germinate, and tend to emerge late in spring (from roots) after the weather has warmed. This makes me think they may not be well suited to cool greenhouse conditions.
Thanks Star and Gardengus. That is exactly it. Star, I loke your blue one even better than the yellow. Think you might have some seeds for that in the swap?
Also, checking for a friend. You mentioned that we have reached our max amount on participants for the swap (except for disaster survivors) right?
Tonya
Sounds like maybe I shouldn't give out the seeds of what might be pseudacorus if it's really invasive. My parents have it in a tiny man-made pond and it hasn't spread anywhere else. Does it grow out of water - i.e. on dry land where siberian irises grow?
Thanks Gemini. Will scratch that plan.
Tonya... I don't have seed s of my blue one, if ya wanna pay for priority postage and anybody else, will fill a box with them. Got them in one gallon pot s and they really root bound, so not sure how much soil I coudl even knock off if I sent them bareroot. Mist oif th epots have like four or mor e fans in them and soem have babie son them. I could trim back root s to get mor e of them in the boxes and trim back the top of the fans.
I have one yellow, it bloomed this time for the first year and wa ssurprised cuz the blue blooms in the spring down here, but the yellow just finished blooming.
I have room for a fe w mor e regula rparticipants and all the survior s that want to come. if ya have friend have them post on here for the moment to join. Don't want to bring the name list up again yet.
Perennilly me.. You cna offer the seed s but just make sur e ya put a note that they can be invasive if not contained. Just like a s if ya markign for really posionous seeds.
You did giv eme an idea though that I got this little sandbox that wa s gona make a small wate r pond in and coudl them in it and not have to worry. : ) Didn't even think abotu using that til now.
It's MDREAMS01/Carolyn's Birthday today :)
Happy Birthday Carolyn hope you have a wonderful day today and get all the plants in your beds that you want to!
Star I used to over winter hibiscus in pots outside without putting the pots in the ground but they had growth on them from the summer only being about a foot high if that. It might be worth a shot trying to over winter them in a cold greenhouse with protection if you start them now your summers are longer than ours aren't they? I would try it with a few seeds which ones are you going to start? I may have a few seeds to replace them for next year I've been collecting a few hibiscus seeds for this year but not many I had so much trouble with hibiscus seeds and the weevils last year I was cleaning them out for months LOL I swore off them but just couldn't resist keeping a few seeds for this year I'm a gluten for punishment LOL
That's a good idea for not putting all of our seed list up at once for the newbies Star :) I don't know what else we could do to make it easier for them but putting the whole lists up is a little overwhelming. I found it a lot easier to keep up with when oinking for seeds to do it by dmails it's so much easier to keep up with them you might consider that at least you can tell by dmail who oinked for them first so there is no confusion. If you miss a day on the thread oinking can get lost sometimes.
Gang.... time for a new thread... I know some "dial-up-ers" have troubles once we get around 200 posts....
Come on over to number 40
