Found this in my garden, it freaks me out. It is about 1" to 1.5" long, see photo.
what is this?!?!?
ugliest bug I have ever seen, what is it?
I don't know but it sure has a great ability to camouflage
Try posting this in the Insect and Bug ID thread.
It's a cicada skin. It isn't in there now. It's in your trees making noise. When they come out of the ground, they molt, dry off, and fly into the trees. If NC is anything like here, open the window after dark and you'll hear them.

You will definitely hear them if they are around. My kids call them power bugs because they sound like the buzzing of electrical lines - lol. Here in Phoenix they are everywhere when there is humidity in the air and it's fixing to rain.
You guys nailed it. Sometimes late in the evening they get so loud that they hurt your ear.
