Forsythia Question

I have a Forsythia that has flowers on it...and it's the end of August, not April! Does anyone know why this is happening? I live in Illinois, Zone 5.

Often times a Spring blooming shrub will send out a small second bloom flush in the fall...sort of a bonus round.

That has happened to me before. Have you had unusual weather this summer?
I have even had daffodils bloom in November!

I think weather plays a big part in blooming plants so if you are having a unusual and not normal weather pattern in summer or winter I think strange things can and will happen. Just enjoy the little surprises that nature can bring.

Yes, our weather has been strange this summer. I am sure that's why there's August blooms on my poor, confused Forsythia. Thanks for your help with this themoonhowl, JulieQ and flowers_delight!

Laura, my Forsythia puts on a heavy display of blooms in the spring and does a repeat bloom in late summer, but is less plentiful. It has done this each year since it first bloomed.

when the kids are grown gotta get some kind of hobbie huh Which reminds me, FYI Today Mars is supposed to be as big as the moon. Will rise at 10pm and reach azimuth at 3am. It only happens once in about every 5,000 years. Its cloudy here this evening hope I can see it let me know if you do out your way.

wait a minute, got my wires crossed. It reached azimuth at 3am in beginning of Aug but will be as full as the moon tonight anyway look for it.

Hi moonhowl...I lived in Dundee, Scotland for many years. The Dundee Law is the volcanic hill right smack dab in the middle of the city. I am so surprised that anyone would even know that the name is connected with Scotland. Ha! Well done! How about your name? I have no clue about it. Laura

Hi Laura, Family from Scotland is why i know of Dundee Law....also a law school by that name. Mine could not be simpler. I literally howl at the moon with some frequency (both volume and regularity) Grin

What part of Scotland is your family from? I go back Sept 28 - Oct 13. I have use of a flat in Tayport, across the Firth of Tay from Dundee. Get to see the Dundee Law from my living room window. You know a lot about plants, thankfully. I don't :o)

South of Glasgow in the Kilmarnock/Ayr area....came to the States in the early to mid 1800's. I have always wanted to have the opportunity to spend time there and wander and learn more about the country. How absolutely delightful that must be.And a fortnight stay to boot....lucky you. Grin
