Glad to hear house and you are fine. Like you say garden will regrow and hopefully be better than ever.

(Zone 5b)

That's good there was no serious damage, but it is dismaying to see plants you love get flattened.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - good luck, pj!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Hey thanks all! I've got an excuse now for a spot of redesigning, he he!
Positive thinking, inspired by you guys.

pj

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I am so compulsive I'd be redesigning anyway.
The winters are far too long here.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

You have that right JoAnn.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

yep

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Think positively! Spring is only 9 mos away! (assuming spring will start June of next year...).

(Zone 5b)

It's in the 50's here, I think that's kind of cool for Aug 31st...

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

LOL We did get an early spring this year which was a good thing cause summer was a looong wait to happen then in a blink of an eye...september. wow

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

spring here,is when the heavy snow melts and the tulips peek up.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

(Zone 5b)

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Wait for our mistakes later on

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

I don't think anyone noticed.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

September where?

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

You know fall is coming when the corn stalks are cut down in the fields. I drove by one tonight, totally cut down already.

(Zone 5b)

I'm not ready!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Another notch in the timeline Jen. Hope the cold snow season goes as fast as this summer did. It always seems to last waaaay longer though. To put it in perspective my dentist helped a little today, next appointment...March. When I return from that I can be cleaning up for the coming gardening season. Time marches on. :)

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Jen
They are making silage out of corn at this time of year.
Silage is what they feed cattle.
Corn goes thru a chipper and is blown into thost tall cylander things at the side of barns.
Thats the way they did it years ago, maybe now its stored somewhere else.

(Zone 5b)

I had to check my thermometer before daylight...it's 48 degrees.
ge I always wondered what those were for!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

There is nothing like the smell of fermented silage.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

There must be cattle in them thar hills!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

started fall clean-up yesterday - seems early for it - cut down all the spent echi's, liatris, and daisy "like" flowers in the front yard - today it will be the backyard's turn.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Thats a job I will do today.
Its hard to see the area flat like mid winter.
Does anyone cut back Ligularias?

Essex Junction, VT(Zone 4a)

ge - that's why I like mixed beds so the winter version isn't so depressing to look at!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

joann only in the final fall rake up just like hosta and day lily's

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks Bill I was sure no one would respond.

Thomaston, CT

It doesn't smell like fall yet---that overripe perfume of grapes, sumac, and leaf mold---it still smells like summer here. But the blueberries are gone, & apples are coming in----I planted mums today. I try to think of pleasant fall things, & hold back the coming winter.

(Zone 5b)

it was 88 today, a 30 degree difference from morning

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

The mums respond to cool nights and warm days.
It will be a week before all mine are out.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Someone say Apples?
