Depending on where you are in Florida, January is terrible because all of a sudden the snow birds are there plus all the tourists and traffic is unbearable. It ruins everything!
Coming from DC to Vermont I see winter like this. DC has a really sucky August. Vermont's January can be pretty brutal (below 0 weather for a week or two). Nowhere is perfect. But I'll take Vermont's January. Sure, it can get below 0 which can be difficult when you're going out to your anniversary dinner, but August in DC is just so terrible (much was a swamp, and the wind blows hot air). At least in Vermont I can dress well to protect myself!
I'll take DC's spring, though, any day over Vermont's (which really limited to May, plant-wise). Ah, the compromises of life...
Feels like Fall
I've lived in Maine all my life..... I just do not like Winter. Sometimes Spring is nice here.... Summer and Fall are my favorites for sure. My daughter is glad that her college in VT is closed during Jan and most of Feb...
BTW.... with the exception of the British Virgin Islands.... there is no place I'd rather live (permanently) than Maine.
I moved to upstate NY 7 years ago and have been cold ever since. I really cannot wait for my husband to retire so I can move to a warmer climate. I hate being cold 75 percent of the time.
I live for summer and this year I am bordering on angry that it has been so cold and wet. It is like I paid for a full length feature and go two hours of coming attractions instead.
Bookreader... I hope it's not too long until retirement..... my sister lived in NYC for 35 years (or more) and just moved to Los Angeles... She's loving the consistently warm weather and nearly constant sunshine (I wouldn't want to live there but I could stand the dry heat and sunshine for a while)...
Lived in Maine all my life too and will never spend Christmas anywhere that doesn't have a chance of snow. Christmas without snow is not reasonable to my brain, now or ever. However, on Dec. 26-27 we can fly out to some place warm and return in April for all I care. ^_^
I agree Pixie.... wholeheartedly
It's funny, I loved winter as a kid. Sledding, skating, ect...was great then, now it's just COLD!! lol
me too! Also, as a kid I would brave swimming in the ocean.... lol
I like winter if it snows, if we only get ice and cold I have no use for it.
Pixie is right. Snow for the Christmas spirit then jump right into May. Let's face it, the main activity besides compulsive plant ordering on line is crabbing about the weather. What else is there to do when its 20 degrees outside anyway?
But then I'd miss my birthday, which breaks up the winter ;)
I loved snow as a kid as well. Not anymore.
I stopped loving snow when I had to shovel it before the age of snow blowers.
I used to walk a mile to school in the snow...............I really did! I have always hated winter so much. I hate the darkness and grayness and it is just plain depressing.
Hubby and I are seriously considering Costa Rica for retirement. We love it there and even the rainy season is warm and lush. We love the area near the Arenal Volcano and the area around Lake Arenal.
I would love to win the lottery and spend the warmer months in the Adirondacks and the winters in Costa Rica. Ah to dream.
It was 68 and sunny here last Christmas! Snow is rare here, sometimes in February we may have a little, I like
the effect on the garden but it never lasts through the day. 20 years ago snow here was more common,
global warming?
We had a record snow fall years ago, an accumulatived 140 inches.
ge when was that? I was in Rochester for college and I remember a year of a couple of huge blizzards. I am thinking it may been the winter of 83 maybe? There was one storm in February that went on for days.
bookreader I have heard that Costa Rica is a good place to retire, it's never too early to plan is it?
pajonica, my brother lived in Japan for several years, he loves it there. He is a retired Colonel and had to do many over sea duties, when given the choice he would ALWAYS pick Japan to be sent to.
He spent 3 years the first time, 5 years his second time, 3 his third time and then 5 more years the last time. Now retired he just goes to visit his friends.
Pixie, your brother must have a lot of friends after spending 13 years here! I'm very lucky to be living here
permanently, the summers are a tad warm for an ex Brit though!
Yes, he said the summers were steamy and he didn't care for the monsoons. ^_^
hate humidity - love the snow
My Autumn Joy sedum have that fall look.
The're calling for 40's overnight. I like snow, just not for driving!
I can't believe it's almost Sept! I'm not ready!
Ugh - though I see that all year.
I only see the bucks throughout the summer. The females and fawns stay in the woods. Never see mom and babies 'till summer's end and fall. After first frost they form up into mixed herds until spring. They didn't get chased since they stayed on the edge of the woods. So far we are coexisting in peace. :)
I never get to see that! I looked at the picture & thought 'how sweet!' lol

Andy - you sound just like the 'experts' - "Things could change though." That's known as CYA! ^_^
Oh, what a pretty deer! So cute! ☺
All changed today temps dropped from 90 down to 75 with a typhoon looming! Must be the 20 degs I donated
to Seattle. ^_^
... well 'ya know, as ruling parties change so do temps! (lol)
Thank you so very much - such a nice donation!
Extra degrees are always used wisely here, and my 13 pepper plants agree!
Hey, ruling party changed! Good to see a finger on the pulse! My donation to seatle was for the very best of intentions honest! Back to 90 tomorrow but a welcom break. Our new ruling party welcomed with a typhoon
what an entrance! ^_^
His timing is flawless.
That late season fawn is cute but I'm glad its in your yard Bill.
Typhoons clean house as well! ^_^
We're ~75° today, don't think we'll see 90° too much more, (I like it like that, nice & cool)! -Hoping the typhoon does minimal damage.
Its the hurricane seaqson here.
Awful weather.
Stay safe everyone.
