HI,
I am in Wisconsin, USDA 5. I was told that if I fertilize plants too late in the season it will force new growth that won't have time to harden off before a frost. (I'm speaking of fertilizing perennials, small trees, shrubs, etc.)
Is this true? If so, when is the last time I should fertilize? I use a water soluble fertilizer, so it doesn't hang around in the soil very long.
Thanks
Jamie
How late in the season can I fertilize?
Jamie, this link should be of help to you. It is specific to Wisconsin and should have contact info for your county.

Thanks. They seem to talk a lot about Fertilizer for lawns, but I don't see much in regards to other plants.
Jamie
The link should have site info so you can call and speak directly to a County agent in your area. That way you get first hand info that is specific to where you live and garden. Everybody does lawn care info, but to get all the answers you need to call them directly. Hope this helps.
I will give them a call. Thank You.
You are so welcome...good luck.
