lots of mushrooms in my yard

does anyone know what it means when your yard is growing mushrooms? And any suggestions as to how to get grass started where the top soil has been removed. I have fertilized and limed for the past 6 years and still have bare spots. The mushrooms are growing where the top soil was pushed around to on a hill during land makeover.

Hi Flowers-delight, we had a huge problem with mushrooms where we started to reclaim an old garden after we built our home, the problem was that we had old dead or dying tree / shrub roots that were rotting underground, the decaying wood was a perfect breading place for the mushroom spawns to grow and we had to clear all this away before we got rid of the mushrooms, also some heavy mulching can cause mushrooms to sprout, so we had to continually rake this mulch to prevent the mushrooms growing, there are some forms of mushrooms that cause trees and shrubs to die but these are not the normal looking mushrooms, they grow on the bark or surface roots of trees and shrubs and look evil as they grow in layers rather than round balls as normal,
Search around to make sure you dont have dead or decaying wood, roots or branches buried under your top soil, Hope this can help a bit. Good luck. WeeNel.

Thanks for the info WeeNel. I guess that may make sense as there were lots of trees that were knocked down when we had the land cleared, but stumps were removed. The yard now to look at is green grass without roots above ground, I mow it with a riding lawnmower. I'm wondering since I have a lot of rabbits it their deposits are causing mushrooms.
