Tomatoes Missing Flavor/Smell

Didn't work any store bought soil mix etc., used chicken manure etc. Could the soil here in Tucson, AZ be lacking something?

It's probably not our soil. Most likely culprits are the ungodly amount of water we have to use to keep tomato plants growing well (which tends to "water down" the flavor), the high heat (which seems to make most of my tomatoes pretty bland), or planting the wrong varieties for our climate. Some standbys that do really well in other parts of the country either aren't productive here, or don't seem to develop the flavor that other folks rave about. What varieties did you do?

And, BTW, if you're getting anything right now, my hat is off to you--mine have shut down completely from this ungodly heat we've been having!

Try growing some heirloom varieries.
Can't beat the taste.
