Can anybody help with identifying this squash?

Berkshire, United Kingdom

Hi all

I'm new here and fairly new to gardening and stumbled across this website whilst trying to identify a squash growing in my garden.

I bought the plant at a charity sale and was told it was a squash but it didn't have a tag with the variety or any more details. At the same time I bought two Jack O'Lantern pumpkin plants.

I have hopefully uploaded a picture of the squash for you to see and was hoping that somebody might be able to identify it. I have googled and searched but cannot find it. The skin is smooth and it is about 7" in diameter.

Thanks

It looks like some type of scallop squash. I've never seen one colored just like that or that large. Maybe someone can give you a positive answer.

It may be buttercup squash. It is a rounded squash that is very sweet and almost pudding like when cooked.

If it is you're very lucky.

Thanks for your replies.

I' ve had a look at photos of both varieties of squash and don't think it is either of them.

I didn't realise there were so many different types of squash.

Could be a cross pollinated seed, but there are several that have that general appearance, Sweet Dumpling is one. Others include Scarchuck's Supreme, Grey Ghost, Tonda Padana,....

I just ordered this from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, looks just like Patissons Panache Blanc Et Vert Scallop in their catalog!!

Thank you so much.
