Sweet Potatos

Frankfort, KY(Zone 6a)

I have one flower I found yesterday.
Question : do sweet potatoes need to flower to make potatoes ?
Should the vines, leaves die back before digging ?

We'll have to grow them again. We did it years ago in the black plastic bag method and it worked very well.

These are in a raised bed, bought from the supper market. ^_^ Never saw a bloom before.
They took off like crazy, growing into the drive way, have to keep turning them back into the bed.
My wife Loves Sweet potatoes and who doesn't ?
Last year I tried reg potatoes from the local nursery 'in a garbage can'...didn't get any, maybe I didn't wait long enough.

Sweet potatoes are related to morning glories and, like melons, will take over a driveway if left alone. They love the heat.

Out here on Long Island they harvest potatoes in the fall.
