Which hosta will tolerate more sun? stained glass or big giant (elegas)?
Ive done some reading and generally the lighter colored leafed hostas will handle more sun but the tag on my "big Blue" states part shade to dappled sun and that it will tolerate more sun than other hostas so now im confused. I want to plant it in my yard - south east corner that gets some morning sun (most of the yard is shaded due to two large street elms) and no more than 2 hours of direct sun before it is shaded again by neighboring houses.im in the southeastern region in Wisconsin.
Any help is much appreciated!
sun tolerant hostas - part shade
I think "Sundancer", "June" and "Golden Tiara" can handle the partial sun - especially in your zone, since you don't have as harsh heat. I was doing research fro zone 10 hostas, and these can survive in my zone, but would need to be more protected from the sun down here. For you, these would work and enjoy part sun as well.
Thanks for the info Grantman31, I'm not sure they have these in our garden center I will have to check. I planted the stained glass hosta last night and then started to worry. This hosta is verigated gold (centers) and dark green (edging) with rippled leaves so I was thinking it could tolerate more sun that the big giant. Well, its a plant and see game right, but my husband goes nuts when I start to move things!
Haha let us know how it goes. Also, for reference, following is two websites for two companies from whom you could order hostas. You can also filter your search based on zone, sun exposure, and other particular details. Hope it helps:
