Weird Weather of '09 #13

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Absolutely POURED here today several times. Weeding in the rain is messy, but the buttercups sure do come up!!

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Yeah, it was coming down real hard much of the day here, too. Just about everything in my garden is flattened. *sigh*

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Sally, I sincerely hope your picnic was dry! Yesterday was strange here...rain in the am, then sunshine, then it just DUMPED... wish it would make up it's mind one way or the other! At least we didn't have a tornado like the people in Enumclaw (who are less than ten miles away from us) did on Sunday night! After talking to a friend who lives a couple of miles from where it went through, I am not going to complain about the downed branches in my yard!

And Kathy, you are right...if you can brave the yuck, some of the stuff pulls up much easier...I was doing crabgrass rather than buttercups, but with the same results!

Bend, OR(Zone 5a)

I drove to work this morning (in on Monday back on Friday) and it was 24 degrees at 7am in LaPine, OR

brrrrrrr.

Ginger

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Eeeeeek! *shiver*

(Sharon)SouthPrairie, WA(Zone 7a)

WOW, guess summer is over there! Hope we have another month or more here!

Bend, OR(Zone 5a)

Humm.. The new 7 day forecast puts us in the upper 80's low 90's by end of week.

Go figure.

Yeah, Julie, I did some grass, too. Messy work, but I got some of my edges back. Nonetheless, I am in denial. I did not put hoses away last weekend.

And I'm looking forward to some upcoming nice weather!

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Well I too did not enjoy the weekend. BUT MY DARLING DW HAD 72 DEGREES AND SUNSHINE WITH A LITTLE SPRINKLE. Ahh Montana is soooooooooooo nice. I shall be home to plant the Round-up plants that are singing to me: "Thank you so much for my life to be in Montana".

Thanks Julie, our picnic was dry and so pleasant that everyone sat around talking for a long time. Every time we get together for picnics or potlucks I swear we have the best cooks in OR living here! LOL Tried not to eat too much, got to take a dessert plate to mom (she isn't up to going), made her a happy camper. I don't cook desserts, so she's been deprived.

Dry again today, sorry you all got hit so hard. Nights are in low 40's, but supposed to get to high 80's daytime by Fri. Keep thinking, summer is almost over and I still have so much to do.

Eugene, OR

We just had the wildest thunder storm go through here. It poured at the football game, it was funny watching it on TV and we were dry as bone, still are. But the lightening and thunder was fantastic. Loud, long, rolling thunder and lightening lit up the whole sky. Even got me off the computer for a while. It was really close.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Hope we don't get any weather here for a day or two...my car window is stuck down again:0(

Eugene, OR

Uh,oh........that's not good.

(Linda)Gig Harbor, WA(Zone 8a)

zhinusmom -If worse comes to worse, ductape and visqueen will do the trick! LOL

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Payday is Friday....I am hoping my mechanic can replace the switch and let me pay him then...or at least get it so the window is stuck UP instead of down.....it isn't supposed to rain tonight but we sure do have some clouds coming in so I did make Bill put something over the window just in case... Of course he grumbled the entire time.

Oh what fun! I get to get up and take the granddaughter to school in the morning!!! Been a long time since I have had to get a child off to school.... Laura is house/dog sitting for my mother in law and my son in law works until after midnight tonight...so Grandma got elected!!

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Never keep a modern (electric) car beyond the warranty. The truck I am keeping forever has roll down windows and no sun roof. This weekend a lady backed into the rear end and dinged it but I could hardly tell where it was I had so many dings. I told her don't worry "it's just a truck". Oh yes and I pulled the front bumper off ripping out trees that I temporarily placed to shade the beds I wanted the maples to shade. I will simply bolt it back on with a little bend in it.

Sofer.....you're such a nice guy. Anyone else would have tried to get her to fix them all. LOL

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

OH Yes! That truck is what I would really like to have!! Told my husband he better help keep this car running well because the next one I buy is going to be a truck....don't know why he is so anti-truck...says we don't need one. Well we don't, except when we need to go to the dump, or haul bikes to and from the shop, or get a load of rocks or compost, or help the kids move or.... :0(

Has anyone heard anything from Shelly??

What you need is a motor cycle to see the sights I saw today. I rode for 4 hours on mountain roads to see the first signs of fall. The scenery was wonderful and warm.

Pretty - is Rhus aromatica?

Trisha - lots of people have been trying to contact her on this forum and on others. Mary/Tillysrat had her phone number and left her a message over the weekend.

No news yet.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

I don't know what it is called but "buck brush" it has small snow berries on it in late summer. This is looking down to flathead lake 21 miles away by road. Lots of curves and smells of the valleys below. I passed nobody in 4 hours of biking over 57miles. I love Montana.

Hey, news alert LOL
Shelly, just called me on the phone. All is well, and is home now. No Puter but safe. She is going to barrow one this wknd. to let you all know, what has been going on. Was really great to hear from her, and she was amazed that we where looking for her and missing her. ^_^

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

I'm very glad to hear she's okay. Thank you, Tills! :)

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Great News!!!

Vashon, WA(Zone 8b)

I am also really happy to hear that Shelly is home safe. I was having bad visions of her being injured in one of those California fires and stuck in a hospital somewhere.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Me too, She was my competition in photos LOL

Ooh Tills, that's stunning. :)

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Steve, Awesome shots! I would love to have so much beautiful area to ride right outside my back door. We have to drive a ways to get to our trails, but once you are there, the sights are incredible.

Tills, I am so glad you got a hold of Shelly! It is easy to understand busy lives and not much time for the computer (otherwise known at my house as the black hole of time!), but when people just *poof* for so long, you worry!

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

So Shelly's computer broke, her cat, Precious, has been sick, she was called out to a fire in CA (no access to phone or computer) and then she ruptured a tendon in her finger. So she can't really even type right now. But she did say, "sorry" to everyone.

And Precious is okay so far; they just can't quite figure out what's going on with her. Blood tests don't show anything significant, but does better while she's on antibiotics. I think they might try a different antibiotic long term and see how that goes . . .

Eugene, OR

Great news!!! If she needs a computer, tell her to come to me! She knows where I live, when she gets down this way.
I have tried to think positive, but it was getting harder. katie....sending you dmail.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Yep, me too. I know Shelly has a computer at work, but it's hard for her to type. Not sure when she'll look at replacing the one at home, but I'll pass your message on to her, Sally.

Eugene, OR

Well, it's that time of year again. In a half hour span early this evening we had sun, hail, a big downpour, more hail, and back to sun. This was hail in the sunshine.

Lousy picture, but it did pile up.

After it stopped, it made for a really pretty sky.

Hey Sally, getting good with the camera. love the last one, too cool.
Got to remember to take it with me, Saw some great shots on the boat but left the camera at home. The water on the sound was a deep blue with caps, and the sun coming down and the ferry in line to to pick up the rays of the sun, it was picture perfect, and I did not have with me. SAD

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Hi all! Takes some work but I have finally trained myself and I almost never even go out in the yard any more without my cellphone and my camera. Of course the one time I leave without it is the time that great shot presents itself.

Eugene, OR

Thank you Tills. Too bad you didn't have your camera with you for that picture from the boat. Sounds beautiful. I try to remember to take the camera out, but usually forget. We had a really cold night last night and right now I'm laughing at the carpet of finches I have under my feeders. If I dare go out or get close to a window they all fly up in one big wave, then start heading back. Busy little guys. Had to cover up plants last night, supposed to be low 30's again tonight then start warming up a little.

Trisha......great self discipline you have. LOL I've got the cell phone part pretty well, but the camera gets forgotten more than I like.

(Sharon)SouthPrairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Don't have any pictures, unfortunately, but maybe Azorina got some. While RJ and I were over in EWA this past weekend, there was a dust storm caused by high winds that closed I-90 down for hours and caused multiple accidents. It was supposed to be our day of work in the yard over there, but we got little accomplished and mostly stayed in the house. Azorina and her DH were returning from Spokane and we were fortunate to be on their detour route back home to Gig Harbor. A margarita or so helped put things in perspective.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

They showed photos from space of your duststorm on the news last night. It was a biggee. Glad you had alcohol. :-)

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Great hail pics Sally! I especially love the sky afterwards.

That dust storm was crazy. Glad we got to observe it from our side of the reservoir rather than the bad side! You would think that ONE of us would have been smart enough to take pictures, but being over there we don't watch TV, don't have internet, and usually don't have the radio on so we are really out of touch. Didn't realize it was as big a deal as it was until we got home.

And Kathy, I will tell you that it was pure torture to have to sit inside sipping a margarita with a book in our hand or socializing with Linda and Carl rather than being outside pruning! Torture I tell you............
