Weird Weather of '09 #13

Look forward to your pics, Sofer. What were you hunting for? Bird season starts this weekend so Rarejem and I will be over in the Othello area. I don't carry a gun and she usually "hunts" but doesn't do much in the way of shooting. It will be a good experience for Phoenix.....we'll see what her really good nose turns up over there.
Yes, the sunsets and sunrises are wonderful over there this time of year.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Geez. I ran some errands today, and it was sunny and warm enough that I shucked off the hoodie and was walking around in a tank top. Get home, have a cuppa coffee, unload the dishwasher, and think about working in the garden. *WHOOSH* all of a sudden it's pouring so hard I can hardly see across the street.

Gotta love the PNW. *shaking head*

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

This is the typical sunset with the color. But the thrashing around of the clouds before this was spectacular. See my next collage.

I want to paint that one!!!

This is a small amount of the series of action that the gradual sunset with clouds below us and a million shapes of everything. What do you see in the photos?

Wow, Steve... those are truly gorgeous. That first one seriously needs to be in the photo contest.

Steve - each of the photos in the montage have energy/movement/grandeur in common.
Thank you muchly for slices of Sky.

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Steve,

Just love the pics! The sky on the east side fascinates me .... the clouds move and change so much, and the colors... so often a WOW! Thanks for sharing your photos with us. Hope to have some of my own from that side this weekend.... will cross my fingers for the same drama.

Color and clouds.

beautiful skies Sofer

Beautiful Sofer...the one on the lower right looks like a hand coming up. Was that special for Halloween season?

Eugene, OR

Had our usual rain-sun for the last two days. But right now it is bright and HAILING big time.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Just got off a day and a half of riding the ferry to Wrangell. Had to bring down my kayak and bear gun for my trip up the Stikine this late spring. Lots and lots of brown bears (grizzly) so bear spray doesnt work in a tent.

Vashon, WA(Zone 8b)

That lower right cloud pic looks like a huge praying mantis to me.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Yes I saw the wicked witch of the west. "Heee Heee Heee my little one!"

(Judi)Portland, OR

Hi Tills! Missed you!

Vashon, WA(Zone 8b)

Beautiful pink clouds! I love the sky like that. Welcome home. You rest up now after all that cleaning up. I know you did good by your mom, but i bet it feels real good to be home too.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Willow, How did you know? have you been there? Thats the only thing I love about the desert is the sunsets.

Missed you all, I will never be able to catch up with all the treads. I missed not haveing the net there.

Happy to be home, took a hour to settle the animals down, and I did not need a blanket last night, was covered by the cats. They could not have got any closer.

We but a bird feeder out, so she can watch the birds. I got some cool pics of them

Yes Tils, I've been that route many times. In the 50's when I lived in Victorville with my sister and her husband. DH and I went to Palm Springs for 13 years and always went that way. I get very sentimental over the Mojave. Love it.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

O'my, we may have crossed paths in are younger days LOL

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Welcome home Tilly! I am sure that you feel better now that you have had a chance to spend time with your Mom in person and help out. Love the image of the cat blanket!

Eugene, OR

Nice sunsets Tills, that's the only thing I like about the desert. Well, the flowers in spring are beautiful too, but I can't take the heat. Glad you had some time with your Mom.

Windy here tonight, really windy. I'm starting to worry about our trees, it's getting so strong. According to the wind advisory, it'll be gone by 4 a.m. We'll see how much sleep I get by then. Gave up picking anything up, just put some things in the garage and left the rest lay where they fell. Maybe I won't have to go looking my garbage cans in the morning.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Scary strong, wind here, too. I can hear the trees singing over the noise of the TV set. And the wind forced a bit of the smoke from the fireplace out into the family room. I hear that Bellingham just reported a gust of 60 mph!

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Lights flickering and dogs barking - looks like we may lose power. Hope everyone is holed up safe!

Eugene, OR

They had said earlier that it was just going to "brush" this area, so we wouldn't get it strong. Well this is the strongest I've seen it in the 11 yrs we've been here. Bet my outside kitty (feral) is scared, but she is in the garage, so she'll be o.k.

Vashon, WA(Zone 8b)

Thanks for the heads up. The wind is just starting to get a little rougher here. I told my son to get his paper saved and e-mailed to me, so he can print it out before there is any kind of electric outage.

Eugene, OR

Good thinking! Shame to lose a paper he worked hard on. Still blowing here.

Buckley, WA(Zone 7b)

We lost power tonight, but it just came back on a few minutes ago.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

I haven't yet lost power. Just heard on the news, Sally, that Seaside recorded a gust of 100 mph. Sounds like you're getting hit as hard as we are or harder.

Eugene, OR

Good you got it back. We always worry about that too, but we have a generator if needed. Still blowing strong, keep hearing crash bangs but doesn't sound like anything big. The movement keeps tripping the deck motion lights, so I can see everything is in one piece out there anyway.

(Judi)Portland, OR

It's a little drizzly here with a few moments of sun. Cold and windy but nothing like the rest of you are experiencing. Losing power is not fun - I hope all of you are safe!

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

It's quieter today in Seattle. Not much rain and no wind. We even saw the sun for a bit today.

Here's are article about the event.

http://www.komonews.com/news/local/70328377.html

At Crystal Mountain (outside Rainier) they say they recorded gusts of 115 mph!

Here's a map, you can see South Prairie, where Lynn, Sharon and Julie live at the top:

Julie lost power last night too- she was just here picking up some plants. Lovely day for a visit... not. But she's a trooper and toured my itty bitty garden with me in the pouring rain. hehe.

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

I could barely lift my head off the pillow & get out of bed the last couple of days. Weird. My b'friend, who is watching our weather avidly because he is flying here on Friday, attributes my malaise to a low front (?) moving through.

Today I was able to get out of bed finally & hike for an hour with the dog. I do so love this climate. I live in a waterfall, feels like! Over the rushing of the river I sometimes hear another sound -- hard rain on the skylights. If it's not raining, the moisture rises from the ground instead & I get mist rolling off the mountain. I keep a fire going in the fireplace but still have the back door open so I can breathe it all in.

Eugene, OR

Quiet here too most of the day, quite a bit of rain. The pond is starting to fill out back, there's been a heron visiting the last week or two. For those that don't now it's the runoff ditch from the streets in our complex, we refer to it as the pond and when it gets really full...the lake. Full of fun things to watch.

Supposed to hit us again tonight, maybe thundershowers but the winds won't be back til Thursday. It was a mess outside this morning, but mostly just pick up and we never did lose power, just flickering lights. Don't mind the rain, hate the high winds. Hope everyone got their power back.
