It is time for a new thread and I am happy to start the new one...here is a link to the previous one http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1026036/ .
I am on the watch for migrating birds but so far not much action so I will share a few of the old stand-bys!
First up is a juvenile Blue Jay...they seem to learn how to make noise the minute they appear on the scene.
Daily Pics Vol. 238
Nice Start Rose. Do you have lots of sunflowers this year for the goldfinch?
Thank you Rose for the new thread, I'm glad you've mentioned about the goldfinches plumage changes with the season, I'll be sure to look for the season to come. Nice pictures, goldfinches are showing up at the feeder here as they're making their way up North.
Burn, love your pics. as always. I'm looking forward for more. Rudy -- is a possibility. ^_^
That's a much talk-about action shot! Rose, congrats! Nice job!
Great start to the new thread, Rose. As always, your photos are fabulous. I really like the one of the Goldfinch with the sunflower.
Linth, wonderful shots of the Great Egret. What a funny image of the Heron.
GP, I can never get over how large the Anhinga's are in flight. Good inflight shot.
My sister lives in Canberra, on the other side of the country to where I am. We share some birds in common, but we certainly don't have these gorgeous Gang Gang Cockatoos. She said that usually she'll see one or two, but a dozen turned up on her back deck yesterday morning and she quickly took a couple of shots with her mobile phone. Check out the deck railing where it's been chewed at, probably by Sulphur-crested Cockatoos that frequent her place.
The black and white bird along towards the rear of the railing is an Australian Magpie (probably a Black-backed). The magpies we have in Western Australia are named Western Magpies - the adult male has a white "saddle" back and the female has a mostly black back. At the present time, these gorgeous songsters are singing all night long in the lead up to the breeding season.
Love those Cockatoos Margaret. Nanny Goldfinches are much welcome here, I saw a few yesterday after a long absence, then no more today. The Mourning Doves are frequent visitors here too. I know neighbors has Blue Birds nests nearby, but I've yet seen one in close up. Nice pix everyone.
Lily, what's a Nanny Goldfinch?
Hack
Wow, that's a bad case of the Grackles you've got there, Rose.
Margaret--lovely pictures of the birds; the tree with the yellow blooms was nice as well.
Oooops, Hack, I meant to address the goldfinch with 'Nanny'. Sorry my bad.
Of course, because I was outside this morning WITHOUT my camera, I saw a large bird approaching...and watched as a large Hawk flew right over my head! Too fast to ID.
Please, forgive the fuzzy photo that I captured from video, but I'm so excited to have had this bird, that Resin helped me identify as a Baltimore Oriole, in my bird bath this past Saturday, that I had to share it. The Cardinal was very curious about the Oriole. I haven't seen one around here before, maybe he hadn't either:)
