Tomatoes - top half have blossoms but no tomatoes

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

The top half of my tomato plants have blossoms but no tomatoes. Do you think it is the weather? Or what?

did you get blossoms on the bottom? tomatoes will form. in my experience - usually after a hot, dry spell .. are you watering them? they seem to begin forming tomatoes after some stress. withold water for a week.

if you can provide a little more information..... did you get any tomatoes yet on any other plants? ... either way you are probably doing just fine. some tomatoes have their blossoms for quite a long time befor the tomatoes appear.

JJ -- I have very nice tomatoes on the bottom. I now see some little cherries towards the top but half as many on a branch. I guess it is just this weather. One regular tomato plant has only one tomato. Everthing needs fertilizer but they said it was going to rain today but of course it didn't. They say rain for the next 2 days but we will see. I watered maybe 4-5 days ago. I guess I am just impatient! That one plant with only one tomato looks really healthy so may I will give it some MiracleGro Bloom Booster soon and hope that helps.

if you are fruiting, i wouldn't bother with fertilizer.. too much is actually worse.. most general fertilizers will develop the roots, leaves, and the fruit. all you want is the fruit.. tomatoes usually ripen at the bottom first. and cherries and grapes the earliest generally. The larger ones are usually later. some common types are early girl - should be ripening now. celebrety - will ripen usually 2-3 weeks later, and better boy - they are mid to late sept. and usually have fruit up to the frost. as you can see it is not just weather, but the variety as well. If you are fruiting, sit back have a BLT or tomato saladand enjoy it. once the tops ripen they all seem to ripen at once an you will be busy picking.

if you do decide to fertilize than i would pick a liquid that will get into the plant faster.. but i don't know that you need it or if it will be of a benefit.. fertilize half and see if there is a difference and come back to let us know the results!

Sounds good! I have been eating the cherry ones for a few days. Had some in a salad for lunch today. The big ones started to change a few days ago. I have no idea what type of plants they are because they were labeled "cherry." lol I sure am looking forward to that BLT!
