vine for shady area

Irvine, CA

Can anyone give me tips? This vine will grow up a wall which has an overhang extending over it, making it shady. But there is also alot of indirect light.

I'm more interested in the leaves than in any flowers it will have. My zone is very mild in S. California.

Thanks!!

Hedera helix.

You could also use Confederate Jasmine Trachelospermum jasminoides...dark green evergreen with small white star shaped fragrant flowers, or creeping fig, Ficus pumilla which also has a variegated form, or Greater periwinkle Vinca major, which also blooms in deep shade.

There are many cultivars of helix (English ivy) with various leaf shapes and sizes. Vinca major is extremely invasive, esp. in mild climates. It can drive you crazy going under and around barriers. It grows like a weed, too, once established.

I'll probably use confederate jasmine. I have one growing in sun, so I can take cutting and try to grow that in my shady area. Thanks!

you are welcome.
