I have been given a brown envelope of wild flower seeds. have not got a clue what they are. can someone please tell me if wild flowers come back each year and drop thier seeds so they spread.
thanks.
Do wild flowers generally come back every year
Really does depend on the types. I have sown them in MI and they do come back, for the most part. If they are adapted to your area many will grow and make seeds next summer and will return the following spring. Keep in mind that the site you put them in needs to be left alone in order for them to return. You can mow them down at the end of the year and hope for the best. The area will look messy and since you do not know what you are looking for, it will be hard to distinguish some weeds from some wild flower seedlings.
thanks. i'm hoping to put them in an area with other shrubs. i am asuming they are local to Enland and also hope they will spread. when would be the best time to sew them in the greenhouse and when should they be sown? any ideas?
Not sure but most of the time wild flowers should be sown out of doors in the site afer the danger of frost is over. There are exceptions as some seeds need a winter to germinate but since its a mix, I would sow them directly in the ground in early spring. There are tons of wild flower organizations all over the world. You might contact one that is local and ask them. Hope I have helped and please send pics of the UK wild flowers next spring/summer. I have images of primroses, violets and trilliums. I wonder, are trilliums native to the UK?

lainymay, I planted wildflower seeds one yr and they did come back the next but put in the part of the yard that was groomed regularly with the riding lawnmower. I'm gonna try it again next spring only this time put it in an area that I won't disturb as untill they bloom it is hard to distinguish weeds from flowers untill they bloom. I really enjoy looking at the different flowers as they show themselves at different times during the summer months. I just scratch the dirt and throw the seed and wait. Good luck hope you get to enjoy them next year.
some wild flowers are perennial and some are annual but i'm sure with a mix, you'll have plenty of both.
