Anyone harvesting Tomatoes yet up in the Dakota's area? I have 100's of green on my plants but not even sign of color change yet. It's been pretty chilly here this summer 4sure.
green tomatos still
Got no idea what the ring is but I'd just cut it off and eat that rascal. Especially if that's your first one of the season.
I am thinking the same thing Jim, the first one i pulled was unusually soft and had a large black spot on it, so I tossed it. This one isn't that way at all. Finally a BLT!
I really envy you. Yours are just starting and mine have just quit. Have a few more left in the house and thats it. Ever notice how much better the first and last tomatoe of the season than all the rest.
The bacon is cooking up as I type :) I am going to have so many tomatos (if they keep turning), I'm have to make salsa.
My wife decided to put up some salsa about the time my tomatoes played out. It sure is good. Much better than what you buy in the store. You can also take the tomatoes and cut out any hard spots and liquify them in the blender, put in a dish pan on the stove and bring to a boil for a few minutes, put in jars and hot water bath them for about twenty minutes. Great in soups, chili, spaghetti or just cold out of the frig to drink.
hey guys if you like green fried tomatoes here is away to put them up wash and slice them thick stack in jars add 1tsp salt and cover with water process in cold water bath for 10 minutes almost as good as fresh
My fall tomatoes are raring up and ready to go!
My tomatoes turned out awsome. 80% of them have just changed color in the last week. I picked 5-6 green ones to have a buddy cook them up for me, he said they are pretty good, but I've never tried fried green's.
