Rita, I love, no I need that tiger brom. good looking! Also, were you talking about your hardy hibbies not growing upright? 'cause mind didn't either. they sort of trailed. I could have staked them, but too lazy.

joeswife, except for 1, all my peacock gingers are low to the ground, kinda like short hosta. In fact, I think I've heard peacock gingers being referred to as "the hostas of the south". that's what I mean by ground cover. The exception one is only about 1 ft tall. they're lovely plants.

none of my ee performed well this year. If we have a week of rain like the weather liars are predicting, that may save my tropical garden.

this is frosty pink from last fall.

Congrats Lili!

It was much needed. We waited all day Saturday for rain and it never came at our house but it was pouring down raining in other area of Atlanta.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I got all yor rain, the basement is holding water again, good thing we don't have anything down there yet.. I have been trying to get Hubby talked into the idea of a cistern in the back yard and pvc valve leading into it from the gutters.. that would help out in more ways than one..
my trailing lavender lantana is now trailing..

Ardesia, thanks, is that your hibiscus Yoda? That is a very good picture.

Planter56, I have my DP Brug planted in the ground, but it does not get very much sunshine. I will take your advice and get a cutting from it.

Joeswife, I would never have guessed an English Ivy. My vine is a Brizilan Firecracker plant, from podster. I will have to post a better picture when it's in full bloom.
Your pink morning glory vine is absolutely beautiful.

Dutchlady, I hardly ever see pictures of yellow ginger posted. It is a awesome sight, thanks

Sunshinesw, lovely pictures

LiliMerci, we had a 20% chance of rain but didn't get any. It was a very nice cloudy day.

Rj, in your last Blog, you have a picture of a red ginger. Do you remember the name?

vossner, I posted the Bromeliad picture by mistake, but now I am glad that it happened, most everyone liked it. I did post the Hibiscus picture upside down. That is a very nice healthy Brug you have there, the ones that I have planted in the ground are covered in spider mites, even my plumerias. You can see the sick leaves on this one. It seems as if I am fighting a losing battle with them.

Thanks Rita, that hibiscus is Chartreuse Rose in the morning. This is the same flower around noon.

...and this is the same flower in the early evening. During the summer when the temperature is so high, the flowers only stay open for one day. It will be interesting to see how the colors change when the weather cools.

Placenciarita, you can spray some what strong water spray on the spider mites.
Repeat every few days until the mites are gone.

debra, I grew up in a 3rd world country and we always had a cistern in the patio area for water. My only concern is the mosquitoes. Of course I haven't researched it yet, I am sure there are ways to keep them out.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I can't recall if I mentioned this or not, but the Frezpruf is now in pre-sales for September release - as we make plans for winter...argghh...
I think I'm going to keep a jug around..but it's so untested I wouldn't spray it on my fern unless I had nothing to loose...anyway I digress

Hey Lili, there are several products available that are nontoixic and are used in ponds a lot.

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

cool. I would basically use the water for watering plants.

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

Wayne actually sold me his last pink jatropha. I think he said that he had a hard time propagating it. I haven't tried. The red is not hard to propagate; I have had luck with it.

Red Oak, TX

ardesia,Chartreuse Rose is amazing. All three versions look great. I do have a Rum Runner that also changes color, now I have one more to add to my list along with Space Oddity and Fifth Dimension.

Rj, thanks for the name, Costus Barbatus.
I will look for your results in one of your blogs about the FrezPruf. I have been replaceing all the shrubs in the front yard with borderline tropical plants, for a change in landscaping.

"Pine Cone Ginger"? Looks like what we call Beehive Ginger.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Try green mulching this year Rita...Grass clippings etc on the frost prone areas...it acts like a heater...This site has some interesting data.
