This is a variegated Stephanotis.. can't see the leaves..I had to use telephoto to get the blooms.

I wish I could get my stephanotis to bloom. I put it in the ground (from a pot) in the spring I think it was. It's not doing much, but at least it hasn't died.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Don't feel too wistful, this is it's first time and my first time to get any to bloom. !

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

I brought mine home from the store with blooms. Some of them opened and the rest of the plant died! So sad. I'm not trying to grow that one again. It was expensive. I had same thing happened to my jasmine but it was spring by then, so I stuck it in the ground and all the brown leaves eventually fell off and the plant came back and thriving.

However, I don't know what kind of jasmine it is and don't know if it's zone hardy and if I need to dig it out for the winter. It looks delicate. I will take a picture and post later since I have some guys cutting down some pine trees right now. They've been here all day...

Pensacola, FL(Zone 8b)

Here is another one of my Brugs that i got for a trade. It is doing so well I can not wait to see it bloom

Our brugs won't start blooming until around Sept or Oct when it starts cooling down.
The heat however has been great for Paw Paw's!

Looks like you have quite a Paw Paw Patch way down yonder in Houston.

randy, do you eat the fruit? I didn't know paw paws were related to papayas. But when I think about it, they look quite similar.

randy, do you eat the fruit?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Vossner, they are Papayas..we call them Paw Paws in Africa, and a lot of places around the world call them that! And yes, they are delicious, sweet. The flavor is in between Mango and Canalope.

Buffalo, NY

Hey Dutchlady your Dragon fruit blooms are lovely. I'm going to have to get a picture of my one Brug that is blooming. So far in two days we had about 5" of rain. So much flooding in the region. There was a tornado in cattaraugus county Sunday, and some wind damage in other areas, but mostly flooding. We had two severe storm systems move through. One around 9 and another around 3am this morning. Water water every where. I think my 30 gallon rain barrell could have been filled twice over if not more last night.

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

Sorry to hear that you are being deluged with all that rain. We're getting the afternoon showers each PM but I believe we are still in a drought here. The rain isn't even cooling temperature off either just making steam!!!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Well that rain went north of us last night and tore a steeple off a church.. the winds were 80 mph.. there was another storm warning this evening so I moved everything and un-wound the jmgs and moved the budding brugs to safety.. once again just lite rain and no wind so far.. thank goodness.. James u r in NY? well I am glad u r still growing plants!
Nicole your flamenco is wonderful.. I lost my flamenco this winter waiting for spring * sniff*
Rita I love your blue ginger.. mine have not bloomed yet... they are spirals? looks nice tho..
sunshine, I wish I had a pawpaw tree.. I planted some seeds given to me in trade, but they rotted..
My sambac is going crazy as it does every summer.. and loves it in the basement during the winter even.. I am already thinking winter for some reason, must be the leaves falling already. it got up to 98 here today..I am sooo tired of comng home to little green worms eating my brug leaves.. bah!Wish my garden spider would eat those, but am grateful he gets the grasshoppers..
here is a mix pot of things tonight as I was "inspecting"

My weed patch and the Salmon 4 oclocks look so pretty at night.. there is alot in there.. three creeping sedums, Perilla "beefsteak", White Jimson Weed ( datura), cone flowers, woodland violets, tomatoe plants, cosmos, marigolds, a strange but cute little vine with tiny little lavender pink sweet pea looking blooms..
( beggars tick?) and liatris, which is done now and setting seed.

Rj, my Heliconia is 7-8 years old maybe older from Jerry. I recently found out that it will bloom on second year stalk( I am a trimmer). It is in partial shade with no die back in the winter. I also have a dwarf variegated one from e-bay that is not doing well and a variegated heliconia also from Jerry with very little variegation and no bloom for the last 5 years.
I think that I might get more blooms if it was in full sun. I'm planning on dividing the clump this fall.
Good luck with yours.

I just found that out yesterday about the second year growth. Of course I ran out there to check the stock that grew twice as big as the other this year...lol..

I observed an interesting thing with the shell ginger..trimming the leaves like we do, well I have several stocks going for a second bloom..I've never heard of that...

The Red Cloaks are really coming out now..noticed the ones in front are starting to bloom as well!

The fern is still kicking....see how I elevated the umbrella? on the deck, on wheels, on a high carved elephant so I can get coverage...don't know what I'll do next year...let it burn I guess...

nope. can't you put the elephant on top of another box or coffee table from a resale shop. won't be pretty but it'll work.

Red Oak, TX

pensecolagarden, do you let your Cinnamon Basil go to flower? I read where the flowers are edible.
