ET Fall RU Trade Thread

Currie, NC(Zone 8b)

Trishann, I will put your name on the Tropical Hibiscus, wandering jew, arrowhead ivy and you can have all the yellow iris bulbs you want.

I finally figured out how to look at the lists and my MIL was thrilled with all the plants you have listed. It was hard to narrow down to a few. We wanted them all!

We would love to have some of the Angel Trumpets, Isabella or one of the blues you may have.
We would also like the Sammy Russell Day Lilly and Yellow or Apricot Cannas

We are bringing a few more plants than what I have listed. We just don't know the names of them.

Flint, TX

I need to update my trades post!!
I added to the food thread that I'll bring drinks and another side dish to the food thread. It looks like several people are on low sugar and I make some tasty sugar free desserts so if anyone else decides to bring a side dish I'll bring a tasty low cal sweet for us to enjoy.
Here's a few things I want to add to my list of trades:
Beck - I've got you down for lariope, hydrangea and coleus cuttings :)
Trishann - got you down for beards tongue, jelly and autumn fern and I will let you know if I have enough honey bells (gotta see how big they are) and if you can add a tall pink and purple mexican petunia to my list that would be great and maybe the bird house is available. I don't want to be a hog!!! LOL
And... Lemkegarden - do you have any more pink rain flower??? If so I'd like one...and you can look at my list to see if I have some thing you'd like.

Trishann, I never knew the name of that store other than my Grandad called it the General Store. It's the one that had groceries in the back and everything else in the front... hardware, fabric, jeans, kitchen stuff. I loved the sound of the floors too. I'm so sad it moved! My grandad was Neal Hogue and was born there and died there. He was the love of my life! My Uncle is Donald Hogue and has some mental health issues from birth. He is very sweet and really does well but my Grnadnother has a kidney disease when she was pregnant with him and it caused some very mild brain damage. He still lives in the same house but has a care giver.
Some of the my best childhood memories are from there. Do you know the Alphin family? That's my nieces in-laws and they are from there, too. Small world, HUH???
I'm so looking forward to seeing everyone.

Iola, TX(Zone 8b)

Becky, how much are the signs? I like the Garden Goddess and Garden of Weed'n....
I would like to have a couple...
Would also like a coral bean tree... I have never seen that tree....
Trishann

Currie, NC(Zone 8b)

Becky, I would also like a coral bean tree, please.

Mindy, I am sure we can find another pink rain flower for you. We would like some of the sweet woodruff or autumn sedum whatever you have available.

Joyce

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes Becky, those are Coral bean seeds, they are very poisonous but it is o.k. to handle them.
They are very hard, it is best to put them in a container and pour boiling water over them and let them soak overnight before planting.
It is a very slow grower, but worth waiting for.
Josephine.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Trishann.. the signs are free to y'all.. no trade needed!! I still didn't get out there to see how many I have of each... but you can see the others in the sack below..LOL.. I have a "few"... I'll mark you for a Coral Bean tree... it's more like a shrub for me here

Joyce.. I'll mark you also for a Coral Bean

TY Josephine.. you always come to my rescue.... what would I do without you?? Yeah.. I knew the seeds were poisonous.. ty for the tip on planting the seeds, I didn't know that!

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Beck, if there is one more coral bean tree, I would love to have it. I have been trying to germinate the seeds and have failed.
Charlene

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

The funny thing about the Coral bean is that the root is very big, the top maybe small, but that root is humomgous.
Also I have had better luck with rooting cuttings than starting from seed.
Josephine.

Iola, TX(Zone 8b)

Hi Joyce,
Sorry to say I lost all my canna's and most of my brugs this year....
I just went and updated my list... Boy that sure did hurt to have to
Delete everything I use to have....
I have a Grand Mariner brugmansia for you and Sammy Russell D.L.,
Can also bring you a cutting of Isabella... I am going over to a friends
to get some yellow canna's so will get you and your MIL some too...
Have a few other things I will bring you and your MIL....
Looking forward to meeting you!

Currie, NC(Zone 8b)

Trisham, losing all of those beautiful plants must have been tough. Cuttings will be just fine. Thank you for sharing with us. We have some orange cannas if you need some. Everyone here is so nice and we are looking forward to making new friends while picking up a few plants.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

If I get any cannas dug this week, I will bring some. It has been cold and rainy all week, so not going to promise.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Got you down Charlene.. they are very small.. but like Josephine said.. the root is huge for something so small. If you want any seeds LMK

Josephine... hmmm .. The root reminded me of a skinny long turnip.. now you have me worried i didn't get it all...lol... actually we are so soggy here, that our sand fell away as I dug them.... sure hope it didn't hurt anything I dug today, but if it did, there's always next year to try again! How did you root the cuttings?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

The best way is in a coke bottle terrarium, but just the regular way and keeping moist works too.
Your plant may have been younger than mine, I bought mine potted and when I wen to plant it I was amazed by the size of the root.
The funny thing is that the top never gets very tall in my climate, since it dies down every winter, but the root gets bigger and bigger, then in the spring the flowers shoot up straight from the root, before the foliage.

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

I know it is late to make a request, but here it is for what it's worth. I have been wanting some agapanthus, lily of the nile. I forgot to mention it earlier. If anyone has any, I'd love to make a trade for some of them.

Charlene

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Actually Josephine.. my plant has been here at least 13 years in the same spot. I left it where it was when I was clearing the land. it only gets rain, for moisture, but it never gets over about 3 1/2 ' tall... that's why I said it was more of a shrub. I'm thinking I have some leaves with the flowers, but may not. This is the first year I have seen babies around it, and truthfully I was surprised to see them. Mine dies back every winter also . I was grateful it was in full seed when i was clearing, or it too probably would have gotten wacked off to the ground. It's just one of those plants you notice when in flower, or in seed

Speaking of bigger and bigger...lol.. I started trying to dig the pawpaws... well these have been in the what I call the field in front of the house all these years too.... OH MY... it was like solid wood all around the thing..lol.. I'll be going to the woods tomorrow to see if i can find some a little easier to dig!!

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

Trishann, how did you loose our cannas, I can not kill the things?

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Ken.. Cannas don't like it much here either. I do have some that is in better soil and they do "OK", but some in poor soil barely thrive
BTW.. are you going to be able to come?? Hope so!!

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

Charlene - I'll bring you an Agapanthus....no trade needed (smile)

Beck......I'm not familiar with Paw Paws...but sounds like they sucker...f that is so....then you make have to "root prune" some small ones on the outer fringe of the parent tree....take a sharpshooter and "circle" the targeted tree....imagine a 6-8" plug with the tree in the center
Tag the tree with "flagging": tape or something that will last thru a season....and return 6 months to a year later to dig. it will develop new feeder roots during the wait and transplant (maybe) better. :)

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Lee... yes the Paw Paws sucker just like the sassafras do... great idea.. that is exactly what I need to do.. TY for that info.. that is great!! The ones I have dug in the past have that sucker 'root', a huge thing, and then it also has a long taproot... even the small ones have the long taproot . I have taken loppers and cut through them, but I really like your idea.. TY!! I'll still dig the ones I have requests for, but there again, won't be a problem to get more next year

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Thank you Lee!

It is getting close!

Charlene

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

I have dug cannas up and made a pile of their roots and the next thing I know I have them growing on top of the ground and that is red clay. Yes we will be coming to the swap. I am down south at Nadine's, working on her place but will be going home Friday morning to get ready for the swap, then back to Nadine's . I guess Trishann was hit hard by the drought if she lost all her cannas and most of her Brugs. I will see what I can do to fix that.

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

Becky ....i thought I'd point out that when I suggested a 6" - 8" "plug"....that was in reference to a very small sucker.....say pencil diameter or less....with a larger diameter ....the plug should increase a little.....i've done this with other small trees too...with sucess

since the Paw Paw has a long tap root as well.....I'd do this to a very small one....and put the sharpshooter as deep as it will go...just to be overly cautious....when pruning and later,...when digging...trying to avoid damaging the tap root

Glad y'all are comin' Ken!

Yr welcome, Charlene....glad to help! :~)

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Lee.. yeah.. I understand the diameter thing.. that might also been my problem in past digs, trying to cram them in smaller pots??. I might have learned that in these St Peters Worts I have dug... they are in larger pots. Ty again.. it has given me new thinking on the subject!

Glad you're coming Ken and Maggi!!

I would like to ask if any of you have 1 gallon size pots and larger just sitting around your house, maybe with my name on it???..LOL.. I am very low on those size pots and could sure use some... TY in advance!

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

Hey, Beck! How about a 3' stack of 3-5g's?
LMK or they won't get in Smock's truck @ the truck stop!!!
:~)

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

OH... yeah!!!! TY!!! TY!!! You tell Steve he owes me... he doesn't ..lol... but it will give him something to think about!! BTW... are you Linda.. or are you Alyce.. I am confused... don't say anything..LOLOL

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

My name is Linda Alyce & since there are so many Linda's, Sheila has taken to calling me Alyce, with the Linda 'understood'. lol
I answer to Prince, Princess, Linda Alyce, Smockette, & now, Alyce.
Call me almost anything except late for supper!! lol
:~)

Iola, TX(Zone 8b)

Does anyone have any hoya and philodendrons cuttings that I can get starts of?

Becky, I have a few one gallon black plastic pots I can bring you....

Ken, When we had that drought here it got my plants... I would water them daily....
Go out a little later and it was like they were never watered.... I hope we never
see a drought like that again.... We didn't even get any hay cut this year for our cows
so, gonna have to buy it this year.... I am loving all the rain we have been getting
lately!!

Anyone want any Red Salvia? I have plenty to share.... Also, have yellow 4 O'clocks.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

Trish, me, me!!
I also may have some philodendrons over with my EEs. Let me ck tomorrow!

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Linda.. I know I answered you, but for some reason it's not here... heck.. it might be on the food thread for all I know... I said.......LOL... I knew you were Linda Alyce... or thought so, and I was lurking and saw where Sheila called you Alyce. TY for setting me straight!!

Trishann.. I also told you TY for the pots but don't make yourself short... also I hate you're having to buy hay for your cows.. I know that will be high! We also were in that drought but ours didn't last as long as yours, but I know what you mean on the watering

Iola, TX(Zone 8b)

Smockette, There is another name you have been called... Remember Dollie posted on (think it was the CS Roundup Board) I want to thank Smurff and Smurffette for swapping plants or something like that.... I called her and said Dollie their names are Smock and Smockette.... We got the biggest laugh out of that.... I still think about it and laugh....

See you Saturday.... Is their anything on my list you want? Let me know....

Everyone, check my list and see if I have your trades down.... I want to make sure I have not forgot anything....
Thanks, Trishann
