Hi I have taken cuttings of plants like fuchias, penstomens etc, finding plenty of info on how and when, delighted when some seem to have taken, but problem is Im not sure what you do with them over winter, should they just be kept in a greenhouse and will they need heat? its a long time until next spring which is when I assume they can go out, sorry dumb question I know but new gardener.
what to do with cuttings
Hi Polly, no question is dumb, we all need info at some time, so never be afraid to ask,
I asume you have a cold greenhouse, as I do, your cuttings should do just fine there with no heat, just remember that even though it is winter, they will still require ventilation, watering sparingly, just enough to keep them alive, IF you dont have heating and the temp goes down below freezing, lay either that white fine fleece over then at night, or a news paper just to prevent the tender tips from freezing, other than that, give them plenty light, a sparing amount of water and check them over often, remember to add labels as IF they loose their foliage over the winter, you could forget what they are till later next year,
For extra protection in greenhouse, you could sit the pots on a tray of horticultural sand (from garden center by the bag) it acts as a insulator for the roots.
Good luck and well done for all your hard work getting your cutting now. WeeNel.
weenel your great! A lot of good info in a short paragraph. I learned something too Thanks
